PROSPECTS FOR BOYS’ TENNIS
The first signs of a boys' tennis
team were noticed when a. meeting
was held, in which Dick Waiser was
elected manager without a dissenting
vote. It was also decided upon to
have some form of an elimination
series in the high school so that the
representatives might be selected in
a democratic manner.
This sport is only three years old
in Lexington, but nevertheless some
teams have been put out that rank
ed well with the other schoois in the
state, making always a creditable
record of which no one who is inter
ested in the teams is ashamed.
As for material, it is not just float
ing around this year. However, two
veteran players are back; Han; Har
grave, a semi-finalist at the state
P»eet, and a finalist at Greensboro,
and Chester Dorsett, who ,ias made
an exceptionally good record in his
last two years of playing. It may
be stated that Dorsett was kept out
of much playing last year on account
Of the mumps, but he is in fine form
now and should be a bright light this
year.
There is plenty of room for new
recruits and these will have an equal
chance with last year’s pla,vers. We
must have a good squad to begin
with, if we hope to play a schedule
such as has been played in the past
years.
Letters will be given, and all who
have any ability please start practic
ing and get in good shape for the
series. This date will be announced
later.
Charlotte, Greensboro, Oak Ridge.
High Point, and Burlington were
played last year, and we expect to
have them again this year.

serve supper on Saturday, March 21st
at the Methodist Hut. Hours from
5:30 to 7:30.
