It always pays a visit to studetds in the spring, but this year it is earlier than usual. The new system of absolute silence in the library is proving a very effective prevention and cure however, and it is hoped that this disease may soon be wiped out altogether. should take an interest in track, but the ones who are trying out are en- thusiastiic sports, and are making good. As letters are to be given to winners in track features this year, we expect many more L’s co be float ing around next year than ever before. We also intend to have ‘.we more silver cups added to our coP.ection. We are now having real, worth while music for our chape! exercises. We always have our. orchestra, and very often a soloist glee club, or some other musical feature for our enjoy ment at this period. We appreciate nil efforts along this line, and may our programs continue to bt as in teresting as they have been for the pa.st few weeks. Our High School must be improving. Judging from the Open Forurri. The last Lexhipep contained a page of such material while this time criti cisms seem to be extremely scarce. Everyone is glad to see that the .Juniors and Seniors have decided up on some kind of truce; .at least there is now no open war-fare. Many word-battles have been wrged, but usually in fun, and things seem to be running smoothly now. L. H. S. has two good chances to send representatives to Cho.pel Hill this year, tennis and debaiing. We are sure that one or both of these teams will be victorious this time, and reach the goal. We think more boys and girl.s A large number of the schools in Davidson County are preparing to par ticipate in the county track meet which wilt be held in Lexington, April 10th. Although last year was this county’s first event of this kind, it was a great success; and we want to make It more successful this year. Last year, Thomasville showed good form and won the cui>, with Lexing ton second. They also made a good showing against Winston last year. This indicates that they will hiave Just as good a team, if not a better one than last year. But why .shouldn’t Lexington put out a better team than Thomasville? We certainly have as good material to choose from as they do and if we decide we are going to win, we will. A large number of boys are coming out faithfully each afternoon and are doing some real work. They are putting some honest effort into the practice and that is what i'. takes to make a winning team. They are putting something into the r practice and they are getting remits. In fact, the coaches are very well pleas ed with the prospects for the boy’s team. But no one is pleased with the way the girls are showing up for track practice. How can you expect to have a team if you don’t cc.me out for practice? Every girl In Lex ington High School should have more school spirit than to allow the rep resentation that we have oeen hav ing at practice. Lexington has good material, but it certainly isn’t any good it we don’t develop and use it. There are many girls who could come out and do good work on one or more teams if they would do it but no, they would r.ather st.ay away; let Thomasville or some other school beat us and talk about the poor track team that the Lexington girls’ put out. I suppose this is the apprecia tion that the girls are showing the coaches, Mr. Stokes, Mr. Hunt and others who come out each afternoon and try to produce a team, and are doing their best to make Lexington .show up as the best school in David son County and one of th^ best in North Carolina. So girls’ why don’t you come out, show your s.rhool spir it and appreciation of the work that these coaches are doing for us, and show people what you really can do? A sriiall number of girls a.re prac ticing tennis daily and those that are coming out show that I^exington really has some excellent tennis players. Although more girls are needed if a team that really shows wh.at Lexington Hi can do, is to be sent out. However no tenni.s matches will be held until after the track meet April 10th. The boy’s are practicing every day and they have a good team. Boy’s may go to Chapel Hill, April 9th and 10th when state tournament will be held. A Successful Firm is not made in a day, but years are re quired to es tablish a GOOD REPUTATION Remember: The boys and girls of today are the men and women of tomorrow.
