Betsy would oe over at the candy counter drooUng. Hurrying from Mack’s, you would run up to Belk’s to see what was next. Downstairs you’d see “Boocsie” Kim- brell, “LibDy” Allen, Maxine Russell and Betty Whitt, who were on then way upstairs. Looking over into the men’s department you’d see Rost Ritchie and Jimmy Hurdle who were being shown some plaid shirts. Well, guess who would be there? None other than Buddy Crowell and Herbert Sink, Johnny Griffith, Donald Hege and Nick Kearns. Peace On Earth, Good Will Among Men —Paul Williams Peace on earth and good will among men was the angels’ message at Christ’s birth. That, too, is the mean ing of Christmas for us; however, we have not learned that truth very well as yet. This Christmastime we are far from peace and good will. Many lights are still out over the world, cruelty and heartlessness are still in evidence, and hatred is still in command. TYuly, men have not heeded the tidings of great joy that Christmas brings. We have tried many methods to brihg peace among men. All our pacts, agreements, and treaties have failed because we always held something back—we were never quite willing to let it all cost us very much. We are learning the hard way that the cost of war is infinitely beyond any price of peace and good will. We realize now that unless there comes to pass that age-old promise of peace and good will, we cannot even continue to exist. Our Christmas this year re peats the fact that God must have a part in any peace effort. It is true that there Is little on the horizon today to give us any hope of lasting peace and good will; how ever, if ever the world was clothed in darkness, it was when out of that blackness a star appeared, and a host of angels chorused the promise of peace.
