MISTLETOE TRADITIONS A lad must remove a berry from the mistletoe each time he kisses a maid beneath it. In the language of flowers, mistle toe means (give me a kiss). A maiden who receives no kisses under the mistletoe will not marry the next year. If a maiden removes a berry and a leaf from the mistletoe (underneath which she was kissed) behind locked doors, swallows the berry, pricks the name of her secret love on the leaf and wear it next to her heart, he will love her.
