Dunbar Glee Club
Renders Program
A musical program, which the stu
dent body always enjoys, was pre
sented by the Dunbar Glee Club on
December 10. The devotional was
taken from Luke 2:1-20. Many choice
and difficult selections were presented
by the glee club, girls’ chorus, girls’
trio and several soloists, under the
direction of Miss Clara M. Conway.
Several of the selections were:
“Spirit of God,’’ “I Know That My
Redeemer Liveth,” “Fairest Lord Je
sus,’’ “My Memory of You,’’ and in
conclusion, “Silent Night,’’ which ver
sion accentuated the close harmony
for which Dunbar Glee Club is famous.
And last but not least of the tele
phone numbers, if you want the best
school in N. C. ring 426!
We hope that you will have some
luck if you call any of these numbers!
Who does that cute Verona Thomp
son date? We are sure that there
must be a lucky feller somewhere that
occupies her time!!
Why don't some of you freshmen
hand in some gossip? There must be
some from what we heard goes on in
assembly!!
One lil’ girl that was mighty happy
last week was Betty Anne Wall. We’ll
let you guess why!!
What’s wrong with these city girls,
“Hardrock”? Or does Pasty Wooten
suit you?
That’s all for now, as we must fin
ish our Christmas shopping. Be good,
and Santa will be good to you!! ....
Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year!!!!
Safety Driving
Program Given
On December 1, Safety Engineer
Tewksbury accompanied by George
Mooney, Philip Head, and Patrolman
Wagner presented a safety driving pro
gram to the students of Lexington
High School. Mr. Tewksbury made
an excellent speech on the ways of
preventing accidents, after which the
picture was shown, “Wanton Murder.”
The next part of the program in
cluded a demonstration on the stop
ping distance of cars at different
speeds. Betty Ann Wall, M. T. Brown,
Coach Gaddy, and Patrolman Wagner
took part in the demonstration. Pa
trolman Wagner made the quickest
stopping distance which was eighty-
two feet at forty miles per hour. Next
in order came Coach Gaddy, M. T.
Brown, and last Betty Ann Wall. The
students and faculty members of L.
H. S. were greatly impressed by the
demonstration of the need for safety
on the highways of North Carolina.
MISTLETOE TRADITIONS
A lad must remove a berry from
the mistletoe each time he kisses a
maid beneath it.
In the language of flowers, mistle
toe means (give me a kiss).
A maiden who receives no kisses
under the mistletoe will not marry
the next year.
If a maiden removes a berry and
a leaf from the mistletoe (underneath
which she was kissed) behind locked
doors, swallows the berry, pricks the
name of her secret love on the leaf
and wear it next to her heart, he
will love her.
Christmas Play, “The
Lost Star,” Presented
Eiile Classes, Dramatics, and
Glee Club Collaborate
This morning an appropriate Christ
mas program was staged under the
collaboration of the Bible classees. Dra
matics Club, and Glee Club, under the
direction of the sponsors, Miss Grady,
Mrs. Lewis and Mr. Crocker. A one-
act play, “The Lost Star,’’ was pre
sented, the story portraying an Amer
ican family that had been disillu
sioned about celebratitng Christmas
because of the striffe and unhappiness
in the world. The family, through a
dream that took them to the manger
in Bethlehem, was made to realize
the true reason for observing Christ
mas. The Glee Club sang several
numbers consisting of old and famil
iar Christmas carols, and the program
as a whole helped to remind the stu
dents of L.H.S. of the true meaning
of Christmas.
