Arriving an hour late the other morning, he \fas greeted by Mr. Wike with: “Well, Dimous, what’s your excuse this time?’’ “Well, sir,” was the reply, “my mother was afraid of the storm last night and turned the mirror oil the mantlepiece around to the wall. When I came downstairs this morning, I couldn’t see myself in the looking glass and, nat urally, I thought I’d gone to school!” “You win!” gasped Mr. Wike. Two career girls were exchanging confidences just before Christmas. One said to the other; “Sis, would a long stocking hold all you want for Chrsitmas?” “No,” said the other, “but a pair of socks would.” A Hollywood producer received a story entitled “The Optimist.” He called his staff together and said; “Gentlemen, this title must be changed to something simpler. We’re intelligent and know what an optimist is, but how many of those morons who’ll see the picture will know he’s an eye doctor?” Doctor: “The best thing for you to do is to give up drinking and smoking, get up early every morning, and go to bed early every night.” Jaybird: “Somehow, doctor, I don’t deserve the best. What’s second best?” Mother: Do you like your new governess, Willie? Willie: No, mom, I hate her. I’d like to grab her and bite her neck like daddy does. Shot—That which if some people have more than one they are half. It seems that in the scale of society, no matter how low a man gets, there are always a woman and a dog that will love them.
