GRADUATION— Cont. from Page one
of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Essick, of
5 West Sixth Street. The valedicto
rian has made the counted highest
average of an even 97 during her
high school career, and she will give
the farewell for her class.
To the familiar strains of “Reces
sional” by Kipling-de Koven, the Se
niors marched out and joined the
thousands of Lexington High School
alumni.
Junior-Senior
Banquet Success
The annual Junior-Senior Banquet
was held at the Municipal Club Fri
day night, May 14, 1948, at eight
o’clock.
Dr. B. J. Peeler gave the invoca
tion, after which Mr. Bob Bruton sang
“The Lord’s Prayer.” Recognition of
the school board, and toasts to the
Seniors, Junior class sponsors, Mr. L.
E. Andrews and faculty were given.
The speaker, introduced by Reverend
H. A. King, was Dr. W. A. Mauze of
Winston-Salem, who gave a short and
very impressive after-dinner speech on
the subject, “How Do You Live?” His
development in clear outline form was
most appropriate for the occasion.
Russell Revelle, local radio star, de
lighted his audience by singing “Lov
ing You” and “Graduation Day”.
Rose and white roses, the senior
class colors and flower, were in pro
fusion everywhere, with a large arch
way over the mantel and over the
main entrance door, forming a bower
of roses.
A dance, honoring the seniors, was
held immediately after the dinner, with
John Petticord and his orchestra pro
viding the music. The dance, which
was held from nine until twelve, was
fully enjoyed by everyone.
The Junior Class Sponsors, Mr. The
odore Leonard, Miss Mary Elizabeth
Pugh, Mrs. Fred Lewis, and Miss Janie
Manning, and the mothers of the
Junior Class worked tirelessly to put
on the banquet, which surely rewarded
their efforts.
