Seniors are ready to graduate. It must be strange to think back over all the good times they have had up here and know that they will be leaving. This column could be called the “Review of Reviews” or the “Who’s Who in L.H.S.” Since there is a store of information on the Mr. and Mrs. L. H. S.’s of 1947-48, it should be put to some use, giving a survey of what the Mr. and Miss L. H. S.’s are like. Their likes cater to nice people and sports, with chocolate milk shakes, eating, and sleeping taking a prominent place. Their greatest dislike is conceited people, and spinach, math, okra and nosey people are tied for second place. The favorite pastimes seem to be reading and loafing. But the greatest landslide was Carolina for college preference. ’Bout everybody wanted to go to good ole XJ.N.C. The top songs were “Near You” and “Stardust.” The favorite teachers were Mr. Gathings and Mrs. Hedrick. This completes the Review of 1947-48, and L. H. S. is looking forward to having a fine group of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. S.’s next year. And to all Seniors, especially the above fourteen, the LEXHIPEP, and everyone else, extends congratulations, best wishes, and hopes for happy, successful life. t Ye Olde and New Editor THE LEXHIPEP Editor-in-Chief _ Assistant Editor Literary Editor Assistant Literary Editor School News Editor Spoi4s Editor Assistant Sports Editor Joke Editor Feature Editor Columnists Reporter Joanne Koonts Martha Hooper Roberta Bafford Carolyn Koonts Elizabefh Clodfelter Doster Wood Jimmy Redwine Buddy Beck Harriet Leonard Exchange Editor Alumni Editor _ Olivia Coggins, Agnes Wilson Evelyn Fulbright Bonnie Leonord Joanne Blackwelder 1948-48 BUSINESS STAFF Business Manager Bookkeeper Photographer Typists __ Jack Evans Buddy Fosfer _ Kelly Beck Patty Sue Bates, Jeonnie Cross, Nancy Koonts, Mary Nell Lopp SERIOUS THOUGHTS “Study to show thyself approved unto God, as workmen that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”—2 Timothy 2:15. “Only the educated are free.”—Aristotle. Lexington High Seniors of 1948 Seniors: As you reach the important goal of graduation let me congratulate you upon your accomplishments. It is not an easy matter to qualify for a high school diploma. To attain the pleasure of this hour has required much work and effort on the part of each member of this class. When your diplomas are handed to you I hope that each of you will make this pledge in your hearts: “With a solemn sense of my responsibility, I pledge myself to hold my diploma as a Sacred Trust; an emblem of my obligation to serve with honor to myself, in generous loyalty to my school, and with fidelity to my country, my fellowman, and my God.” It has been a genuine pleasure to have been associated with you and to have watched your progress through the years. Sincerely yours, L. E. ANDREWS, Supernitendent TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 1948: Congratulations to every member of the Class of 1948. You are reaching an important milestone in your school career as well as in your life. It should not, however, be the end of your education. Many of you will go to college and will find that this is just the begnining of your learning. Many will go immediately into some occupation and will find that there is much to be learned outside of school. It has been said that we are never really old until we are too old to learn. So graduation from high school is for most young people just the beginning of the exciting adventure of getting an education. Many of you have received honors for outstanding achievement during your high school days. We are looking forward to seeing your names in the headlines in college athletics, scholarship, and other activities as well as in the fields of business and industry. You have a lot of talent and I hope you will develop it to the utmost. To be rea'lly happy in life, one must find some work he can do well and that he enjoys doing. I hope that your years in Lexington High School have helped you to discover your interests and abilities and will help you to follow through and shape them into a happy and useful career. Friendships formed in school are among your most cherished possessions. One of the sad things about graduation is that it is almost impossible for an entire class ever to meet together again. On the brighter side, however, we know that many friendships formed in high school will become even stronger and that each of you will go out into an ever widening circle of friends and acquaintances. It has been a real pleasure to work with you during your senior year. Again, congratulations and best wishes for your happiness and success. C. E. wncE
