February 25, 1949 THE LEXHIPEP Page 7 Jacket Stalwarts Still Stinging Boys By 49-26; Girls By 26-14 A “dar-horse,” MillSf Home team, appeared to b enothlng more than an old grey mare after losing once more to an improved Lexington squad. “Squad” is the term, because Coach Harold Bowen alternated his two teams on a fifty-fifty basis in run ning rough-shod over the “Mills Home” crew. Lexington’s “All-State” nominee, Harold Carter, hit the hoops for 12 points to take high honors for the locals. Bobby Shytle was held to 6 points, which is almost a record low for the sharpshooting sophomore. Captain J. L. Peeler tallied nine to aid the Jackets’ cause. Hall and Bird were high for the losers with 10 and 9, respectively. The “Jackettes,” paced as usual by Peggy McCulloch, had little trouble in taking the visiting lassies. Miss McCulloch hit for a total of 14 points. This 26-14 victory was amost the op posite of a previous encounter of these girls which ended in the amazing high score of 61-45. “Jackets” Take Two . More From Mooresville L. H. S. took two more important South Piedmont games from Moor esville on their own court Ftiday, February 18. This game put the “Jackets” boys in the very midst of the conference race. The boys won 59-37. Shytle was high scorer for the victors with 19. Hannah had 11 for the losers. TTie girls won 32-21. McCulloch was high for the locals with 16 points. Denny was high for the Mooresville fillies with 11.
