FLASH! FLOAT
FAILS TO FLOAT
School was out, but Lexington High
School was a center of hustle and bus
tle. Prom the moment the sun peaked
over the tops of neighboring trees un
til it wearily settled into its cradle on
the western horizon, industrious stu
dents and a few old grads toiled stead
ily building a beautiful float of white,
decked in decorations of green—a float
befitting the reigning queen of Christ
mas from the Lexington High School.
At last her attendants, choir boys
—the queen was crowned—the music
garbed in crimson gowns, were ready
of the carols began to float out into
the misty air! But alas—the truck
heaved forth one disgruntled chug-a-
iug, and then stopped—right in front
of the high school building. The irony
of fate had happened The float failed
to float, for the tank, it was later
learned, contained no gas!
Quickly Miss Jo Ann Perrell, the
queen, and her choir boy attendants
were packed into Mrs. Otis Hedrick’s
auto and rushed down Main Street in
the middle of the parade, much to
their chagrin and much to the sur
prise of hundreds of spectators who
witnessed the parade.
