“Spring may come and spring may go, but the LEXHIPEP goes on for
ever.” With this thought in mind W3 set about one swelteringly hot after
noon to accomplish our monthly assignment for the paper. But, despite the
heat, we had one pleasant consolation, for Mr. and Miss L. H. S. of the
Senior Edition are none other than Martha Hooper and Jack Evans, our
most capable Editor and Business Manager, respectively. It has always been
the tradition of the LEXHIPEP to save the best till last, and we can think
of no better choices with which to wind up our “popular pickin’s” than Jack
and Martha,
We found the two “brains” of the LEXHIPEP trying to “beat the heat”
out at the old fishin’ hole, and we caught them in the cute pose above.
(Playin’ hookey again!) Promptly beginning a conversation about the last
twelve years of their lives, we found that la petite Marthe (who starred as
the French maid in the Senior Class Play) has big plans for this summer.
She intends to do a little work and a lot of playing (ideal vacation except
for the part about a little work!)
Martha’s twelve years of school (and fun!) are full enough to fill a
book. Going ’way back, we discovered that her favorit»3 teacher of all years
was Mrs. H. E. Hilton over in dear ’ole Robbins. She considers the biggest
thing that happened to her in all that time was her first date with Carter
on December 16, 1948, at the Honor Society dance.
Martha is prouder of being chosen Editor of the best paper in the state
(ahem!) than of any of the rest of her many honors. Among these are
membership in the Quill and Scroll, Beta Club, Dramatice Club, treasurer
of the Honor Society, and president of the Tri-Hi-Y. Martha is well known
for her beauty, and her classmates consider her the most attractive girl in
the Senior Class. In addition to this, she was voted Most Outstanding and
Most Popular (this could go on forever!) But the end is not yet! Our dark
beauty reigned as Queen of L. H. S. this year and Homecoming Queen for
the past two years. Despite these showers of blessings, Martha’s personality
is hard to excel, and her friendliness endears her to all (aren’t we flowery,
though?).
Martha’s favorite pastime (in which she engages almost all the time!)
