L.H.S. CHEERING SECTION GETS UNDER WAY
clKerleaders of Lexington High School are the only group around
here that do so much work and get so little credit. Here and now that fact
will be remedied.
The cheerleaders have been working hard this year, even before school
tegan to try to give the siudnti tne best pep meetings that ole’ Lexington
High has ever had. ’They also want to give the football team the best support
ever. Looks as if they’ve succeeded, too!! ^
Much of the credit for the good pep meetings and loyal support to the
team goes to an individual. She has really made the cheerleaders get down
to work, and she has helped to instigate new yells which are plenty good.
Tiiis person in question is, of course, the Chief, “Hinge” Swing, and L H S
thinks she is tops! ’ • • •
Keep up the good work, cheerleaders; you’re doing swell!!!
High School Band Adds to Spirit
It is said that practice makes perfect, and from the looks of the band
this must hold true. The band has been a great help at pep meetings by
introducing two of the best yells L.H.S. has ever heard. This change in the
band is largely due to the capability of the bandleader, Mr. V/agner and the
loyalty of the band members. ’
Teams Old Rivals;
Expected Thriller
Continuing a keen rivalry that has
existed between the two schools for
a number of years, the Lexington
Yellow Jackets once again meet the
High Point Bisons at High Point Col
lege stadium tonight at eight o’clock,
in the past five years the Bisons
nave won three games u) the Jackets’
one, with last year’s game ending in
a is to 13 deadlock. This year proves
to De a good opportunity for Lexing
ton to narrow ijie gap and get back
into the race.
This game is more than just team
or school rivalry; it is a definite bat
tle between two coaches, Harold and
Carol Bowen. With a twin brother
on each side it is always exciting.
Both teams have lost the first three
games; thus they go into this game
on an even basis. Even though this
is not a conference game, it is very
important to Lexington High, both
from standpoints of teams and coach
es. Another factor to be noted is that
Lexington’s superintendent of schools,
Mr. L. E. Andrews, is a native of
High Point.
SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS
At the first Senior Class meeting of the year, the above officers were
elected to lead the seniors through the Big Year. 'Those who were so honored
arc; President, “Corky” King; Vice-President, Burke GUes; Secretary. Bar
bara Y^oung; and Treasurer, Maxine Y’arborough. Congatulations to these
four, and here’s hoping we all have a wonderful year!
Senior
Scribblings
After eleven years of happy study
and play (mostly play, we’ll admit),
the best class ever to survive (I mean
enjoy) the trials of L.H.S. reaches its
goal, THE SENIOR YEAR. Yes, we’re
all looking forward to enjoying those
seiuor priveleges(?) and receiving the
admiring glances of underclassmen
(ha-ha). Hats off to our Senior Class,
and may this be the best year yet!
We knew Coach Bowien was serious
abou*u his job of coaching, but we
didn’t know that he would go to such
an extreme as a broken arm to dem
onstrate his teachings!
Congratulations to our senior class officers! You’re the best group to
proud of you—Corky King, Burke
Criies, Barbara Young and Maxine Yarbrough.
^oks Ike this is going to be a swell year for everyone. The LHS band
is altout the swellest thing we know. ’The peppy music really sounds grand,
and Mr. Wagner can get music plus music out of those 60.
’This year the LEXHIPEP is featuring “School Snaps,” or “You”d Better
Watch Out!” Our ROVING camera-man will be on the LOOSE (as usual)
catching all of you who WANDER around. So you’d better behave yourself,
cause you might get shot (with a camera, that is*) Watch out for the mar.
wrth the camera! (In other words, just MILLIE.)
Two New Teachers
Complete Faculty
With the opening
of schol we greet
our two new teach
ers, iMi&s Leone
Branan, the new
French teacher,
and Miss Mary
Edith Jennings,
the new librarian.
Miss Branan is very much impressed
with the fine spirit towards work and
other activities shown by the students
of Lexington High School. She is a
graduate of Georgia State College for
Women.
Miss Jennings is from Elizabeth City
and is a graduate of Greensboro Col
lege. She thinks the students of L.
H. S. are well behaved as a whole.
Although two more teachers rate
as “old” teachers, they do have some-
■uhing new about them—their names:
Mrs. Joe Tate, formely Miss Mary
Casper, and Mrs. Steve Parrott who,
before her marriage, was Miss Betty
McCrary. L. H. S.
student body ex
tends best wishes
to both of them,
and congratula
tions to Mr. Tate,
an L. H. S. alum
nus, and Mr. Par
rott.
