November 10, 1950 THE LEXHIPEP Page 5 Lexhipep Visits Cheerleaders Dance On Halloween night the cheerleaders sponsored a square dance at the Lion’s Den. Everyone had looked forward to this dance for quite some time and by Halloween excitement was at fever pitch. The cheerleaders certainly worked hard on this dance; that was evident from the way the Lion’s Den was decorated. Colored crepe paper wars strung from the middle of the ceiling to the four corners of the room. Bales of hay, corn stalks, and punfpkins gave the room a Halloween touch. In one corner of the room there was a fortune teller who would read one’s palm if he “would cross her palm with silver.’’ There was a well from whence came apple cider; and hot dogs, candy apples, and all sorts of soft drinks could be bought in the kitchen. Although Lexington High School students are not too well skilled in the art of square dancing, everyone had a good time trying to do the steps as fast as they were called. Square dancing may look simple, but it definitely is not. There is hardly anyone in Lexington High School who can square dance really well, but by the time the dance was over Tuesday night everyone felt as if he knew more than he had previously known about square dancing. Perhaps one reason that the dance was as big a success as it was is because that type of dance is a novelty to the students of L.H.S. Everyone enjoys doing something different once in a while and this particular square dance was just the thing to cure that “in a rut” feel ing. Everyone entered into everything, especially the danc ing, so well that he cheerleaders count the dance a tre- m,endous success, and everyone enjoyed it so much that there has been talk about making it an annual affair. During intermission everyone went on a hayride, and after a somewhat bumpy ride, everyone returned to the fes tivities ready to eat, drink and be merry once again. Through out the night slow dancing was enjoyed, as well as an occa sional conga line. Toward the end of the evening there was a cakewalk, which was won by Phyllis Breedon and John Sink. After the dance was over almost everyone went to the late show to be thrilled and chilled by a horror picture. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Those people who didn’t come to the dance don’t know what fun they missed! UALITY FIRSTS MM. i
