March 1, 1963 THE LEXHIPEP Page 3 MR. AND MISS L.S.H.S. —SUSAN MOORE Phyllis Parks It wasn’t very easy to get down the stairs at the Carolina Theater during “Gone With The Wind,’’ or it was VERY crowded; but Phyllis took the easy way. “Psst, let’s go upstairs and freshen up during the intermis sion,’’ said pert, little Phyllis in a soft, whispering voice. When intermission arrived, the herd of girls, including Phyllis, paraded up the stairs with their lipstick, eyeshadow, compacts, and combs, ready to grab any mirror available. As they were finishing, one of the girls said impatiently, “Let’s go; we’ll never make it down those crowded stairs, and anyway some one might take our seats.’’ The girls quickly re-packed their fif ty pound pocketbooks and began filing down the stairs. One of the girls noticed that Phyllis was missing. “Where’s Phyllis,’’ cried Mar tha. Crash Boom! 'Bump-bump- bump-bump. “Phyllis!” “I fall down,” squeaked Phyl lis from the bottom of the stairs. Joe Hornbuckle ‘‘Joe, don’t you dare forget that picture of you and Sydney at the Jr-Sr.” His mother’s last demand echoed through his head as he drove home from Sydney’s house one black and rainy night. As he turned the car around he thought of the reception Mr. Young would give him on his ringing the bell at one a. rn. An idea struck: Sydney’s win dow. Screams! Lights! “Somdbody’s trying to break into my room!” As Joe hit the lawn, Mr. Young hit the flood light switch. “Call the police!” ‘‘Where’s my - - - bang! Who opend that door in my face?” “Daddy,” said a very meek voice as she watched the receed- ing figure icf the prowler, “it’s only Joe.” Buck Young Oil Co. Basketball games •have been especially outstanding. At the games, the student body has really shown that they are behind the team all the way, I think the whole student body should congratulate the cheerleaders, the entire basketball team, and especially Coach Callicutt for the splen did wcrk they have done. Also, this month brought Valentine’s Day with many of the boys having to “dig up” a little extra money. February being the month of cupid was certainly true for there are certainly quite a few new couples dating plus some going steady. Three couples going steady are; Chip Craver and Sue Hall, Maxey Sanderson and Karen Reece, Hayes Jones and Pat Severance. The junior class finally got their class rings and certainly are proud of them. You can always tell because they are flashing every where. The annual Demolay Valentine’s Dance this year was one of the best and I am sure everyone enjoyed it. The Demolay Sweetheart this year was Linda Berrier. Congratulations Linda. I know Carl was very proud of you, especially since he got to crown you, and the other extra?!! Lillian Green, I heard that you can’t make up your mind be tween Steve Temple or Alan Palisoul. Which one is it, Lillian? Johnny Bumgarner, how are you and Lindy Wall getting along? Joan, who was the boy you dated? Does he go to Carolina? Janet, haven’t you been down to Carolina for several week-ends? Who is this boy? Carol, the love bug has certainly stung you, hasn’t it? Thompson, what about this? It must really be getting serious because how many week-ends have you been dating? Quite a few wouldn’t you say? A few weekends ago a few L.S.H.S. girls went to Davidson Gollege for a dance week-end. I know Bebs Mann and “Mickel had a “blast”! But not much sleep!! Susan Moore and Dobbin, did you have fun at Davidson at the after-parties? iCheryl Owen, what’s this about your going steady with a boy from Burlington? Who is he? A certain senior boy took THREE sophomore girls to the lake one Sunday and it seems something happened. Who was it, and who were the girls? Ridky Rhodes, did you ever find out who wrote that letter? The letter said that Kathy loves you and always talks about you. WhC' is Kathy? Nancy Miller, who is this boy from ouLof-town you have been dating? Jackie, Louis certainly did give you a nice birthday present. He took you to Blowing Rock to the Ski Lodge. Jane, you went also, didn’t you? Is it fun to ski down a hill backwards? Some of the sophomore boys had a lot of fun at an eighth grade dance a few weeks ago. Was it fun, Richard Hegler and Steve Ever hart? Jimmy Linville, I heard that you have been dating Joan Morgan. Is it true? Two sophomore couples that are dating again are: Jack Carter and Jean Yarbrough, Roger Williams and Penny Leonard. The Senior Class is getting very excited about the Senior Trip and the trip is less than two months away. Everyone is certainly planning to have a blast. The Chatter Box has been placed in the main hall for one pur pose: the gathering of interesting items for this column. Please put your other trash in the trash can. G. W. SMITH LUMBER CO.
