SAFETY IS ESSENTIAL
X-
Bin Boggs ... On Safety
Safety trips off the tongue of
most Du Pont employees just as easily
as they would tell you the time of day.
Bill Boggs is no exception, and this is
understandable, because he has been
Safety Supervisor at Brevard for the
past 6 years.
On February 1, due to rotation
of assignments, he changed jobs to
Power and Grounds Supervisor. Leav
ing the safety supervisor assignment
prompted him to give a parting mes
sage. Here it is . . .
“Safety is as much a part of
our job performance as cost, yield,
or quality of medical x-ray film.
That’s the way it's been from
the start with Du Pont. Manufacture
of hazardous gunpowder along the
Brandywine River in Wilmington, Del.,
caused the Company’s founder, Irenee
du Pont, to recognize a need to protect
life and property. He also had a keen
awareness for the ‘well-being’ of each
employee.
Accordingly, original manufac
turing buildings and equipment were
designed and operated with employee
safety in mind. Also, rules were estab
lished based on experience and com
mon sense, to promote a safe environ
ment with dependence on individual
safe performance.
In the ensuing years, the Du Pont
Co. has sought excellence in every
phase of operation. This has not only
resulted in a long line of dependable
products, but an enviable Company
safety record. Dramatic evedence from
1968-69 industry-wide statistics
shows:

HOSPITAL-SURGICAL
COVERAGE
When you have to “ante up’’ at
the hospital for yourself or a member
of your family, you generally pull out
your wallet and hand over your Blue
Cross-Blue Shield ID card. The admis
sions clerk records your certificate
number and other important data, then
sends the hospital bill to the Blue
Cross office in Durham, N. C.
The convenience and savings
afforded by this transaction are made
available by your eligibility to partici
pate in Du Pont’s Group Hospital-
Surgical-Medical Coverage agreement
with North Carolina Blue Cross-Blue
Shield, Inc.
The cost per month to you for
this plan ranges from $7.93 for indi
vidual to $22.44 for family coverage.
After one year of Company service,
your cost drops to just 75 cents for
individual and $2.00 for family cover
age. These minimum costs cover ex
tended benefits (services beyond basic
coverage). Du Pont pays the difference.
Why does Du Pont pay the major
part of this insurance premium? The
