When we got here, I put ap plications in at Du Pont and every com pany from here to Asheville. I went with Du Pont because it was the best paying job I found for wages and bene fits in Western North Carolina.” /■ & DELBERT CASE —Casting Operator — C & S Area —Resides on Fletcher School Road in Fletcher —Married — 6 years Company Service. “The big reason I came is because it’s the best industry around this area. It has the best working conditions. I knew a few people who worked here. They advised me it was a good place to work. Du Pont is a well known industry and it’s not as likely to go “on the blink” as some of the smaller industries. The pay is a little better than any around here." Where there might be better pay, working conditions are probably worse. When I first came here, I noticed the grounds were neat and well kept and it was cleaner than I expected any factory to be.” NEXT MONTH’S QUESTION: WHY DO YOU THINK IT’S IMPOR TANT TO SHOW PROSPECTIVE CUS TOMERS OUR PLANT OPERATIONS? What impressed me most when I first arrived was the friendliness of the people.” FLOYD GRINDSTAFF-General Me chanic Trainee — Maintenance Area — Resides on Route 2, Fruitland Road, Hendersonville — Married with 2 chil dren—5 years Company Service. “I'm originally from Mars Hill. My dad lived next door there to Perry Robinson’s dad. While visiting him, I met Perry and got an application for Du Pont through him after being laid off from a smaller company for lack of work. I made out applications to other companies too. Better pay, bet ter benefits, and better working con ditions made me choose Du Pont over all the others. I moved to Henderson ville one day and started to work that same evening.”
