SAFETY EMPHASIZE OUTSIDE SAFETY To focus our attention on the need for improved safety off the plant, the off the job safety committee has adopted a seasonal events calendar. Special events will be staged just be fore each major holiday under this pro gram. Two of these events staged re cently were held just prior to Memorial Day and July 4th. The Memorial Day event featur ed “Friendly Faces You Don’t Want To See This Weekend’’. Patrolman L. S. Goodson of Flendersonville handed out “citations” showing traffic accident statistics. Tom Connors of Medical stood by with emergency stretcher and transfusion apparatus. John Fisher of Maintenance proclaimed “We’ll be the last ones to let you down” in front of Fisher’s Mortuary. In star spangled costumes, Dar lene Hogsed, Shirley Pace, and Leonard Poteet appeared at the Plant gate just prior to July 4th with hand outs on accident prevention. Both events were video taped by John New of Finishing for showing to the 12 to 8 shift in the lunch room. “Look for more reminders of off the job safety just before forth coming holidays”, states “Shep” She pard, chairman of the off the job safety subcommittee. Our off the job Central Safety sub-committee is determined to keep us on our toes about safety away from our job. (•to- The “Saw” That’s AH EUROPEAIM EXODUS The Common Market will have 33 new customers in August with the arrival in Luxembourg of a contingent of families from Du Pont Photo Pro ducts, U.S.A. Stan Hutchison, Curt Bollar, John Filliben, Sid Bordonaro, Don Stancell, Jim Arnold, of Brevard, and Lajos Keller and Gene Gach, of Par- lin, are transferring families (includ ing 17 children), bag and baggage, to Luxembourg to guide construction and start-up of a new polyester unit to supply the European continent. Prior to leaving, they will re ceive 3 to 6 weeks of German lang uage instruction. They will also at tend a course on Business Council On International Understanding at American University. These 2 courses will prepare them for the shift to European culture. We wish this group lots of success in erecting another high quality polyester manufacturing unit and in adapting to their new sur roundings. • vb; Vie! Glueck Und Erfolg! DERA GUIM & ARCHERY CLUB PROPOSED Plant management has approv ed a proposal to startup a Gun & Archery Club according to DERA rep resentative Jerry Surrette Control Maintenance. Land has been allotted for ranges. Preparations to establish both sites will begin in September. These activities will be sanc tioned by the National Rifle Associa tion and the National and North Car olina Field Archery Associations.
