PEOPLE MARVIN WHITMIRE —Quality Con trol Operator—Finishing Area —Re sides on Island Ford Road, Route 1, Brevard —Married with 3 children — 7 years Company Service. "I think it’s real good. If everyone would follow this philosophy both on and off the job we’d have fewer injuries. Everybody here who operates a piece of equipment has got to be trained to work with it safely. If we are trained to do our work safely and we think and act safely, we’d be doing what this philosophy says. I’m for it 100%.” EDDIE BAUMBERGER —General Me chanic— Maintenance Area — Resides at 2408 Old Spartanburg Road, East Flat Rock —Married with 4 children — 6 years Company Service. “Du Pont spends a lot of money on safety. This shows they’re really con cerned and sincere about it. The safety philosophy shows how Du Pont feels about prevention of injuries. We can cut down on injuries if we believe and practice what it says at all levels from the operator to top management.” Question of the Month QUESTION: “What does the ‘Du Pont Safety Philosophy’ mean to you?” ANSWERS: LARRY GORDON —Service Operator — Casting Area —Resides at 45 Turn pike Road in Brevard —Married with 2 children —1-1/2 years Company Service. “I’ve read this before and used to think ‘All Injuries Can Be Prevented’ was silly . . . but since then I’ve seen a lot of safety fliers come out showing ways the injury could have been pre vented and I’ve changed my mind. On the part about management, I believe the group supervisor does help by coming around to remind me on safe ty rules, precautions, and many little things that can prevent an injury. One of the biggest benefits of this philosophy is the direct training on safety by the training supervisor. He makes sure you know all about job safety before you take over the job responsibility yourself.” NEXT MONTH’S QUESTION: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MAKE YOUR COMMUNITY A BETTER PLACE FOR YOU AND YOUR NEIGH BORS TO LIVE? MARY BISHOP — Secretary — Employ ee Relations Department — Resides on Reasonover Road in Cedar Moun tain—Single—5 years Company Ser vice. “It means I have a personal respons ibility to work as safely as I can and to follow the guidelines that have been set up for me. I feel if I apply the safety philosophy to my own job. I’ll avoid injuries and not have to lose time from work.” ROGER GALLOWAY — Stores Receiv ing Clerk —Accounting Area —Resides on Gallimore Road in Brevard —Mar ried with one child —2 years Company Service. “I think this philosophy will work if everybody gives it their best . . • but everybody means top management on down. It means knowing all of us will have a nicer and safer place to work. If management sees to it the philos ophy doesn’t fall through, then every body will benefit by avoiding injuries that might otherwise occur.”
