Recreation Lake
Location in View
Construction of the new 17-acre
recreation lake west of the Plant is
progressing slowly but surely. Much
of the ground cleared for the lake bed
is now visible from the Plant entrance
road.
Filling of the lake awaits com
pletion of three projects.
1) Clearing a channel and laying
overflow conduit.
2) Cutting reamining brush and
disposal.
3) Building the earth dam.
Work parties are still needed to
finish cutting brush. See Ken Grogan
to schedule these parties. Free lunches
are provided in the cafeteria for these
volunteer workers.
Road Opening
Delayed by Weather
Mother nature must have snapp
ed her fingers several times at the new
Hendersonville access road. Resulting
bad weather has caused excess ero
sion on the road surface and embank
ments. Repair of the damage will add
an additional 3 to 4 weeks to the job.
Scheduled completion now looks like
August 1st instead of July 1st.
McCrary Stone Service of Ashe
ville has completed rock crushing for
the roadbed. The road contractor,
Asheville Contracting Co., will begin
stoning the roadbed as soon as final
grading is complete. Paving will follow.
Control Mechanic
Trainees Leave Classroom for Field
Eleven Control Mechanic Train
ees from Class No. 5 left the class
room on May 12th after 48 weeks of
bookwork. Their education will con
tinue in the field by direct exposure
to jobs on operating equipment under
the guidance of Controls Foremen.
Four of the eleven have been assigned
to rotating shifts for 8 months, a pre
requisite for progression to Step 10
after completing the 52 month train
ing program. The remaining seven,
now on days, will draw a later shift
assignment.
Class members are Lawrence
Wood, Joe Pace, Wayne Owen, Charles
Gant, Gary Murdock, Terrell Orr, Otis
Galloway, Troy Coggins, Jesse Smith,
John McDaris, and Bill Parris. (As
shown in photo).
These men take great pride in
completing the initial classroom train
ing phase and rightfully so. After in
tensive exposure to such subjects as
basic electricity, electronics, math,
physics, and pneumatic instrumen
tation . . . you can see why!
