An announcement was made last February concerning a VTI (Voluntary Termination Incentive) opportunity becoming available to our wageroll personnel. A window of sign-up time was opened from February 15, 1988 until March 15, 1988 and applicants had to be off roll by April 15, 1988. The VTI was offered as one step in improving our competitive situation. Participants in the program received one week’s pay for each year of service in addi tion to all pension rights for which they were eligible. Thirteen of our co-workers elected to accept the company’s offer. For some, a new career awaits; for others an opportunity to engage in that seemingly elusive dream, real retirement. Several spoke of something between the two, a mid-ground, a chance to do some hobby kind of things they’d really wanted to do but, heretofore did not have the time. Yet, they still plan to do some income producing things also. Whatever their reasons, we wish these folks well. Editor’s note: This VTi foilowed a December 15, 1987 through January 15, 1988 VTi for exempt and non-exempt personnel in which 33 Brevard DuPonters accepted a Voiun- tary Termination Incentive. The United Way is a local non-profit volunteer organization working to increase the capacity of people to care for one another. It is our community s single largest voluntary effort addressing human needs. Through your generosity, the United Way supports agericies helping many deserving people in Buncombe, Henderson, Transylvania and other local counties. . . ^ One in three people in our community is touched by a United Way agency. Assistance for the elderly, child care, neighborhood services, rehabilitation centers, family agencies, crisis centers, in short, the United Way is everything involving growing up, growing old or growing well. Citizen volunteers who know our community and its needs run the United Way. Without these volunteers, there would be no United Way. They set goals, organize campaigns, review allocations, audit budgets and determine policies. Volunteers do so much, they keep United Way’s administrative costs to around ten cents on the dollar. This year, as in the past, we are emphasizing fair share giving. The United Way defines fair share as one hour’s pay per month. Those of us who are fair share givers will be rewarded, not only by feeling good about helping people in need, but this year there will be discount shopping days in some of the major stores in our area. So, when your volunteer talks to you, think about the valuable services your United Way provides and be generous. E.l. Du Pont de Nemours & Co.
