Jon athan Greenfall, the hero of Ilihlegarde, Hawthorne’s new hook, “No lioad Too Hong,” recently added to the library’s hook collection, was no exception to this rule, for he trained for trail blaz ing the moment he heard the first stoi'ies of a land called California, told in Flat to, Missouri. By the time Captain Fremont was rcauly to lead his scientific expedition over new trails to the Sierras, Jona than, then only 17, was a crack shot, and could speak the language of the Delaware Indians. Has Momentous IIist'oi*y The story of Jonathan’s treck across the wilderness under the leadership of Fremont, and of the history-nmking ('Vents which took place after his ar- rivai in California, is told with the author's gift for bringing history to life. .lonathan take's i)art in such mo ment ons events as the lirst crossing of tlu'Crc'at Basin from Salt Tjake to the Sie'rras, and the raising of the flag of tile H('put)lic of California at Sonoma. ^^ (ecil'Russell Drug Co. Curious Boys Test Ads n Physics Laboratory To test the daims of a eurrent ailvertisemeiit, “You smoke four “x” cigarettes (luring the time it takes to smoke five of another brand,” a group of boys performed an experiment that proved the statement slightly erroneous, in the sics laboratory recently. .After inserting a “y” brand in a l ultber tube leading to a vacuum pump, the boys lighted the cube. The steady, continuous inhalation, so unlike man’s, burned an inch of the cigarette while the timekeeper checked off 30 seconds. Next, a similar process was used to test “z” cigarette with the same results. After lighting the “x” brand, ex citement increased, as a longer and longer portion turned to gray ash. After checking the results the time keeper reported that the “x” cigar ettes do burn slower, but not in so great a ratio as the advertisers claim. $500 toard Wmmr To Feature Initiation Of Ouill and Scroll Contrary to the u.snal custom of hold ing a.s.semblies on Tuesday, the chapel program for next week will be pre sented Thursday, Xovemher 27, with the Senior hi.gh chapter of Quill and Scroll in charge.
