After four years of teaching
here at Grimsley, Mr. Gamer is
leaving to go to the Law and
Business School at Carolina. The
main reason Mr. Gamer is leav
ing is because he feels he is not
paid well enough.
Graduation Plans
Include
Beach Trip
As the 78 school year comes to
a close, more and more seniors
and juniors find themselves mak
ing after-graduation plans for the
annual June beach trip to Ocean
Drive, South Carolina.
The most common sight during
the day at O.D. Is the crowds of
people stretched out along the
beach absorbing rays from the
sun. Some people prefer throwing
frisbee up and down the beach,
while still others can be found
elsewhere, such as the people
who seek excitement. They can
usually be found at the miniature
golf courses playing Jungle Golf,
or even more adventurous people
are found at the water bogging
places.
For those who like to take it
easy on their beach trip, there is-
always the common sight of
people sitting in rocking chairs
along Ocean Boulevard watching
the cars ride by, and usually
making conversation with each
carload of beach-bound people.
The night time favorites are
dancing, amusement parks, and,
of course, long walks along the
beach. The Spanish Galleon is a
well-known disco, where crowds
of young people gather at night.
Mr. Gamer will attend four
years at the school and hopes to
obtain a Masters in Business
Administration and a Juris Doc-
trate. Feeling very strongly that
he does not get enough pay, Mr.
Garner said “I regret man tea
chers are not paid enough to
sustain a family.” By this he
means the incremenets he has
received in his salary in the last
four years have not kept up with
the inflation rate in the U.S.
If Mr. Gamer returns to
Greensboro he would like to
practice law. Of much importance
to him, Mr. Gamer would like to
say that the most enjoyable part
of his teaching career has been
his association with the students
of Grimsley. All of the members
of the High Life staff would like to
wish Mr. Gamer good luck and a
lot of success.

PICNIC ENDS YEAR

and the High Life Newspaper
staff held their second annual
picnic on Friday, May 26, at
Battleground Country Park. This
picnic was the culmination of a
year of hard but successful work
for both staffs.

Elections for the Executive
Board of the Greensboro Youth
Council were held in May. Seve
ral Grimsley students were elec
ted to membership positions.
Grimsley juniors Alison Pentz and
Jackie Seism will be the Member
ship Director and Records Direc
tor, respectively. Her'sh Chopra
will act as Grimsley District
Director. Project Chairmen and
their projects will be Todd Pos
ton, GYC and Friends; Michael
Sherril, the Entertainer; and Lin
da Wells; Qown Club.
Positions for next year’s Execu
tive Council have been filled.
Serving as Chairman of the
Executive Council will be Alicia
Neese. JoAnn Engle will serve as
SeCTetary. Keith Miller will act as
Senior Qass Chairman while
Mike Barker will be the Junior
Class Chairman.
Heading Student Affairs will be
Harlan Frye and Lydia Harris.
Bill Linton and Jaffee Ferree will
be in charge of YRC. Pep Board
will be headed by Kelley Haines
and Ken Anderson.
Before going out into the sunshine to play a game of softball both
teams sat and listened to Lisa McDowell and Cheryl Lnteman sing and
play their guitars.
GHS PRODUCES SOCCER CHAMPS
This year, Grimsley has pro
duced two spectacular soccer
teams. The boys’ season was
played in the spring. The boys
had the potential to win the state,
but had a mishap in the playoffs.
The girls soccer team, which just
started this year went all the way
to the top by winning the city
championship.
Soccer in Greensboro, is the
second largest sport. Soccer is
growing fast, and more and more
people are starting to take inte
rest in this sport. It requires skill,
speed, and quick thinking. You
don’t have to be big to play this
sport, any size can play.
