The Plantation Suffer Club was the destination of the DDT’s and dates just before school when the club had a party celebrating the opening of school. Lynn Boyce, Lee Groome, Jane Hinton, Kay Lindley, and Dewitt McMTissett are claimed by the DDT’s this year as its new mem bers. Lea Souers New members, Blanche Bonner, senior; Linda, Suddreth, junior, Judy Andrews, Lacy Coble, Libby Cooke, Barbara Ellis, Elaine EUis, Ann Glascock, Judy Moring, Patsy Parker, Penny Taliaferro, Mickey Turner, and Martha Watson, soph omores, were initiated into the i LES SOEURS at the first foot- I ball game. Afterwards the mem- j bers and their dates attended an open house at Blanche Bonner’s and a slumber party at the home of Betsy Stevens. Sub Activities Last week the club had a plantation Party, and plans are now being made for a fish fry to followed by an open house and slumber party. Pictures were taken of the club members for the annual at their regular club meeting, Wednesday, September 18. This is a story of a group of people thrown together by acci dent and their reactions to their adventures. Starting Wednesday and play ing through Saturday is the Broad way stage hit “A Hatful of Rain.” The cast for this includes Eva Marie Saint, Don Murray, An thony Pranciosa, and Lloyd Nolan. ‘‘A Hatful of Rain” tells the story of Johnny Pope, a young man who is “hooked” by the narcotics “habit” while being treated for war wounds. Don Murray, one of Hollywood’s fastest rising young actors, por trays Johnny, while Academy Award winner Eva Marie Saint plays his young wife Celia. Johnny’s well-intentioned broth er “Polo” is played by Anthony Franciosa. who created this part on the New York stage. —Ad. New Members I Initiating the seven new sopho- I mores was an exciting task for I the ESA members. New initiates i are Sandra Ball, Lynn Bowles, Kathy McLeod, Sally Ogbum, Judy Stone, Ann Waters, and Lynn Westmoreland. Being dressed in old clothes and gathering cigar ette butts were the main objects of the initiates this year. After completing this, they were ac cepted as full-fledged club mem bers. Sub Projects Now the ESA’s are busy making plans for their annual fall dance to be given with the WST’s the latter part of this month. The girls will first have a spaghetti dinner at a member’s house. After the dance there will be a breakfast followed by a slumber- the home of Bonnie Sikes, club social chairmaiL Members voted on the club ad viser for the school year of 1957- 58. Tliey decided to have two ex saints as advisers, Patty Slade and Betty Kemodle, students at WC. Syitt CHub Officers of the SYTIT Club for this school year are Hugh Blair, president; Wellford Lineweaver, vice-president; Allen Andrew, sec retary-treasurer; Jim McGregor, chaplain; and Tommy Kitzmiller, sergeant-at-arms. October 5 is the date the club has set to have its first party. Members and dates will attend, with several honorary meor^ers home from college. The SYTITS have just com pleted their napkin sale. Hdpdng the old members sell napkins were the new initiates Tootie Blair, Bob Cox, Phil Wray, David Al- baugh, Spencer Gaylord, Pat Lee, Butch Bailey, Benny McKee, and Larry Hudson. The staff this year is compose, mostly of new membere with many sophomores on the staff. than one-third of the staff grad uated last year. For the first few weeks of school Miss Mildred Herrmg and Mrs Lucy Oliver have been talking to the 63 English classes throughout the school. Once a month the English classes are scheduled to come to the library. The library is open to the stu. dent body at 8:15 a. m. and a half hour after school as well as during the lunch periods. Wh« sophomores are in a»embly. jm,. iors and seniors may come, and when juniors and seniors are in assembly, sophomores may come.
