While that premise is logical enough, there are far too many instances when they do not. One local Black church quite recently featured a pianist and an organist, both excellent but white, in celebration of its televised mortgage-burning ceremony. There are Black ministers in a number of communities throughout the country who condone the use of white funeral homes by members of their congregation. Every time incidents like these occur, money invariably flows out of the Black community, money that translates into jobs lost. As the churches preach, teach, and practice, so do we. Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year from Denise Franklin Every minister in every pulpit in every Black church this Christmas should exert the significant influence that the clergy has. Our churches can effect the changes necessary for Black economic self-development. If that is not occurring, they and their congregations should question "why?"
