Page 14 AC Phoenix, September 1988 Harvey, Eagles To Take Flight No. 10 James Earl "Air" Har vey is 285 yards from becoming the all-time leading passer in the history of the NCAA Division II. Harvey, a strapping 6-3 205 quarterback from Fayetteville's Douglas Byrd High School, has brought national noto- riet to North Carolina Central and CIAA. He is the first player in the history of the NCAA to throw fo" over 3000 pass completions in 1 254 pass attempts. "Air" has rushed for 16 touchdowns and has been responsible for 80 touchdowns. That total is 16 short of 'he mark held by Doug W.lliams of Crambling State. Tenth year head coach Henry C. Latti- more will be searching for the CIAA crown this year. His Eagles won the 1980 title and Reese Hargrove had 25 receptions for 382 yards. He had a 53 yard reception against Fayetteville State. Red- shirt freshman Greg Lewis is expected to step in and fill the shoes of two-time ALL- CIAA tight end Ter rence McNeill. Junior fullback Gary Leath, the second leading receiver on the team, had 29 catches for 338 yards and 2 tds last y"ar. This season will find the Eagles with no ALL-CIAA receiver for the first time in five seasons. However, NCCU possesses a fine receiving corps. Senior flanker Joe Vanhook is l.jd 8 receptions tor 1 1 y yards against North Carolina A&T State in the season fi nale. Senior David Burt averaged 4.9 yards per carry in picking up 335 yards on 73 rushes. (6-1 260 Whiteville, NC) is the lone return ing lineman. Massey, a first team ALL-CIAA cornerbaek, led the Eagles with 6 in terceptions of 81 yards. He had a 69 yard scoring return against Virginia Union. Mack had 4 steals for 77 yards and Lindsey picked off 2 passes for 16 yards. Harry Fuller, a junior from Charlotte, had 3 interceptions for 80 yards and one score.
