Page 20, AC Phoenix, December 1991 Black Clergy Failing, Continued from Page 18 blessings of the white man, yet in matters of politics, economics, education, and culture, both the ruling class white man and the buffer-zone house Negro are determined that the Black com munity never exercise self-deter mination? My position is that when the Roman Emperor Constantine married Christianity and made it the state religion of Rome, he perverted the mission of Jesus, and mission aries around the world have averted it ever since. When the Virginia Assembly, addressing the question of the slave and religion of Rome, he perverted the mission of Jesus, and missionaries around the world have perverted it ever since. When the Virginia Assembly, addressing the question of the slave and religion in 1667, declared that, “the conversion experience—and baptism—does not have any bearing on the freedom and bondage of a slave,” the .American missionary mission was perverted. The Black church institutionalized this perversion and has propagated it among Black people in various forms ever since. In 1984 when the Christian right took to their pulpits in open political warfare against the goals and aspirations of Black people, coating their theo-ideological positions in the superficial trappings of Christian ethics, they were merely acting out of the undergirding creed of their forefathers who had used a false brand of Christianity to exterminate Indians, enslave Africans, rape Ethiopia, drop atomic bombs on Japan, kill untold thousands in Vietnam, and maintain Blacks in the ghettos of North America as colonies. Through a military occupation force erroneous ly called Police Department, they gave an open and unequivocal signal to the Black community that even the white lie, covered for so long is now revealed: You arc on your own now! With so-called white (‘hi istians The Ogburn Tire Center 4334 Old Walkertown Rd. Winston-Salem (919) 744-1132 Tire Sales Se '’ices Towinrj having shown what side of the political fence they are on, we are better able to see the leadership tragedy of the Black preacher. When the white preacher was assessing the political trends of American society and seeking the security of his white brother, the Black preacher was extollng the virtues of Mondale at the convention and telling Black pteople that he (Mondale) was sent from God! We know who sent Mondale. When white electronic media preachers were busy outlining their program for 1984, Rev. Jesse Jackson was overseas on the pretext of assuming the white man’s burden, when he should have been in the ghetto instructing Black people as to how they can escape bondage. When the white preachers were implementing a program that would keep Ronald Reagan in power. Black preachers were havng anniversaries. They should have been in this dungeon called North America trying to fight for the release of the 40 million of their own brothers who have been held for the better part of four centuries. Yes, we know that a public education designed for the white man in order to maintain psychological control over the Black community, is oppressive. Yes, we know that Black capitalism is but a feeble effort to place Black economic exploiters over the masses of Blacks in cases where whites have found it either not feasible or dangerous to exploit Blacks in person. Yes, we know that the law is but another tool of oppression, designed to sanction the rich and privileged class and condemn the poor and oppressed. Yes, we know that the prevailing social ideas are but the enforced ideas of a power elite. But, we know that a final question stares the Black man square in the face. What must be done with religion and a group of preachers allowing one group of men to: invade a continent and destroy a nation of people; invade yet another continent and enslave a nation of people; establish an economic system of oppression and exploitation around the world in the name of Jesus and democracy; and in some inexplicable manner, make the enslaved and exploited through the same Jesus, and system of democracy, love their condition of oppression?
