AC Phoenix, December 1991, Page 23 Kwanzaa Tradition , continued from Page 4 parents, our teachers, our legitimate leaders, our people, and the righ teousness and victory of our strug gle. This history is a little lengthy but without a doubt very informative. It is history we need to be reminded of quite often. We need to know of things that interest and concern us positively as Black people. If you would like more informa tion about KWANZAA, there are books at the Special Occasions Bookstore, located on Martin Luther King Blvd., and at the East Winston Library, as well as the main branch on 5th Street. If you would like to participate in KWANZIAA but don’t know or un derstand exactly what to do, you can contact me at the Phoenix, (919) 727-1171, or Mrs. Lee Faye Mack at the Back to Life Center. Get involved. Get interested in your rich and glorious Black his tory. It doesn’t hurt or take any thing away from you but only adds to your whole existence. As the Honorable Elijah Muhammad says, “Love yourself and love your own kind.” WSSU Center, continued from Page 5 Center currently serves 45 pre schoolers as a state-licensed day care center, but its energetic director has plans for more. What she ulti mately wants to see is the inclusion of the Center in the Early Childhood curriculum, not only at WSSU but in the state university system. “My goal is for the Center to become a model for the state of North Carolina and for teacher training,” Dr. Richardson says, optimistically. The Center is slated for expansion as part of WSSU’s 10-year plan which will be welcomed by Dr. Richardson and her staff. “We need a new Center,” she says, “we’re too small...we need to expand.” Meanwhile, as Dr. Richardson works with her staff to prepare the proposals that may ultimately result in her goal for the Center, they provide daily reinforcement for the children in their care. And they learn from the children as they teach. “Adults learn how to play themselves, “ she says, adding, “(The children) are a lot more cre ative than we are.” But, the most important asjiect of the Center’s ac tivities is the ongoing support chil dren receive for their efforts. Summing up the Center's aim. Dr. Richardson says enthusiastically, “What they (the children) do builds self-esteem and they take risks...We provide constant rein forcement of their creative effort.” x±xxxxxxFlnanclng Available INVENTORY CLEARANCE u s E Your ' $9*soo ' fbbe I I OFF I delivery I I ON ANY I ON I I 2 PC.
