Page 17, AC Phoenix, Jan 1994 PUALiC AI%I%OmCEIUEI%TS Winston-Salem State Offers Preparatory Courses Winston-Salem State University is offering a variety of preparatory courses for the SATS from January through May. Participants can enroll for a 40- hour or a 25-hour course, and choose among mathematics and English, math only and English only. Classes are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (Section I) ; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (Section 2) and Saturdays and Sundays (Section 3). The 40-hour courses for math and English is $300; for math only, $185, and for English only, $140. The 25-hour courses costs, respectively, $200, $130 and $85 Course Materials are an Additional $15. Section 1 and 2 meets January 31-March 4; March 21- April 22 and April 25-May 27. Section 3 meets February 5-March 6; March 26-April 24, and April 30-May 29. Join Piedmont Environmental Center’s Naturalist, Tom Shepherd, as he surveys for owls on PEC's north and south preserves Participants in the program will learn the techniques of attracting and observing native owls and will have the opportunity to see and hear Great Homed Owls, Barred Owls and Screech Owls. Tom will also interpret owl behavior, nesting strategies, food and habitat preferences. Owl l^owls will begin each night at 10.30 p.m. and conclude at midnight. DEM BONES! DEM BONES! Have you ever wanted to dig up a fossil? Have you ever held something in your hand that was 40 million years old? Well, dig into fossils with Piedmont Imvironmental Center. Join PEC staff and Andy Wood of the Education Department at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher February 25-27, 1994 for a three day fossil field study. Fossil formation and collecting, marines fossils, and geologic forces W'hich create fossils and record the past will be examined and interpreted. Additional activities include a sea shell swap, beach combing and birdwatching to round out our activities in this fascinating area. We will also travel to Wrightsville Beach for a program on the impact of development and offshore activities on the delicate balance of shoreline ecosystems. Costs range from $110.00 to $130.00 per person and includes transportation, professional fees, guides, accommodations and four meals. She is a technical analyst in the Information Services Group. She has been with Wachovia since 1979. Mrs. Paul and her husband Charles live in Lewisville and have two sons. A Banker's Man Kevin B. Berger has been elected Assistant Vice President of Wachovia Operational Services Corporation in Winston- Salem. He is a lead analyst and programmer in the Information Services Group. Berger has been with Wachovia since 1990. He is a graduate of State University of New York in Farmingdale. He and his Carla live in Winston-Salem and have three children.
