The AC Phoenix April 1998 Page 19 Perceptivity The Golden Rule when the children were young, one night they asked the pizza man to empty the trash. He did and they thought it was funny. I was furious and said, "Please do not ask others to do what you don't want to do." Perceptivity is a monthly thought-provocative column, not intended to criticize. Parentology, Part 2 Not Ideal, But Real by Khalida Lovell Raising children by the concept of sensitivity brings about an awareness of indi viduality. Consequently, these young beings begin to grasp what it means to want for others what one wants for one self. If a young being is conscious or sensitive to others, then by the universal Law of Cause and Effect, the energy returns back to the young being and others are conscious and sensitive to him/her. Now, if you are teaching your children this basic understanding of truth, they should be reaping enormous gains. Positive exchange of human consciousness will overtake degrees of cruel, belittling and even radical overtones. Children will begin to have brighter days because you, the parent, allows your ignorance to play no importance other than your search for knowledge and understanding. This understanding does not require you to enroll in a school. It simply requires you read, read, read. Why is it so difficult for people to be sensitive to one another? This idea of healthy emotional expression goes beyond the stranger on the street. We human beings have difficulty in communicating with people we live beside, or the people we work with everyday. And, sadly, we experience difficulty communicating with the people whom we claim to be our church brothers and sisters. This illness of mass humanity is a reflection of the coldness thrust upon the hearts of many. We have become so contaminated with lies and faisehood that it has eaten away our very flesh, creating cancer and other terrible diseases, precipitated by the wrong thoughts. Why? Because we fail to love one another. So sad. We have created a world of people with little or no sense of truth. We witness the Jonesboro, AK, tragedy. Can the cause be that parents fail to teach humility and sensitivity? We all are watching America suffer. Will our children be the destruction of America, a country with a history of hate and injustices? Could the Universal Law of Cause and Effect manifest the ugliness that's prevalent today? This alone should stir parents to take heed and change the way you teach your children. The real deal is, we expect our children to listen to us as we model anything other than possessiveness and human ethics. If you do not understand what cause and effect means, go to the bookstore or library and seek it. I believe many of you are familiar with "what you sow is what you reap." It is the same principle. There is a cause for every effect and this society has been using a temporary bandage to eradicate the cause. Seek or find the cause and your family and personal life will change for the better. This may be time-con suming, but what have you got to lose? You have everything to gain. We preach about equal rights for women and yet we are far less conscious of human rights for all. We harp upon the maladjusted black man, but mothers, hear me please, with your very own hands and hearts, you had the chance to nourish and mold your sons to be sensitive and responsibie beings which would have illu minated compassion for women, rather than the harshness of ingratitude that is prevalent today towards women and children. We seek to understand why our children are careless of their lives today, but we stoop to blame everybody except ourselves. Look in the mirror parents. Our chil dren are a reflection of us. You helped to create them, you fashioned them to think and act like you. You even teach your children to operate in fear as you do. We give names to those who care to love many, and then we wonder why our children play with machine guns and have become heartless and cold in their expression of love. I say, it is everyone's benefit to grasp this teaching of sensitivity seriously, and try your best to provide your children with tokens of warmth, love, touch and truth through active participation in your hearts. Let yesterday's headaches be replaced with today's serious commitment to express, to communicate and to understand your children and yoursqjf. A great beginning is to study "self." Learn who you are and in finding yoursell,'' you will find your children and you will discover a new path of love and appreciation. Give everything you've got to building any relation ship you believe in. But when it comes to parenthood, we have no choices, just options on which course to take. Take the one that builds, strengthens and unites. Amo.
