Page 2 March 2003 The AC Phoenix Mission Impossible? Mission Accomplished! Dr. Patricia Baiiey By Dr. Patricia Bailey There is no greater sound than the sound of the plane descending and the touch down of the wheels as the plane is landing. My first thought as after 2 long journeys is MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! However, the journey didn’t begin this way. I faced so much opposition from the begin ning until the end of my Middle East Mission. First of all, the UN Security Council issued a warning against all Americans planning to travel abroad. And out of all the places to go, I get an assignment to Algeria (where two of the largest terrorist cells operate from). And my 2nd mission to Egypt (the center for Islamic training). And the 3rd leg of my mission to Paris, France, the European headquarters for the largest Islamic Radical Communities outside of the Middle East. Yet, in spite of all the negative drawbacks, God continually magnified His name and showed Himself strong. For the name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and they are safe. The Psalmist David said, “You are my hiding place, Ch God. Whenever I am afraid I will trust in you”. MTM was able to successfully complete each mission for the Lord! Thousands of refugees stranded in the deserts of Algeria were taken food, a communication tower was set up, so that they can have a link to the outside world there in the desert. Dr. S. W. Mack led his congregation to support MTM in a Food Crisis Campaign for the Sahawari people. The remaining containers of food are still awaiting to be shipped over. Also Rod Baker of Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, donated over 1500 pounds of food for the refugees. I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Union Baptist Church and Victory Christian Center for their generous food donations to the refugees. The mission continued into upper Egypt, to a remote village...Abu Gilbad. In order to reach this remote village we had to go from Cairo to Bene Aziar then catch a ferry across the River Nile and continue into the remote bush region. I found the people there living as they did over 2000 years ago. There was nothing that remotely resembled the 21st century. , I was able to establish small economic projects for the women of the village. I took in Paula White’s book, “Dare to Dream” and also T. D. Jakes two books “Woman Thou Art Loosed” and “The Leading Lady”. Both books were translated into Arabic and distributed among the We Have Roots, Where Others Have Their ROOn/IS BY ROai Families Sharing and Caring. 923-0019 Telephones, Cable, Refrigerator, All Utilities Paid women. The village of Abu Gilbad is surrounded by Sunni Muslim radicals. But the people of Abu Gilbad are courageously lifting up the name of Jesus in the midst of radical opposition. We also established a praise team, an evangelistic team and a literacy team to go in and teach the people to read and white. ■ I ate, slept and lived in this tiny village of only 250 families, the cows, the chickens and the goats all live under one roof. Sleeping in the desert is so serene and peaceful. The disconnection to the hustle and bustle of the developed world is something to be envied. I continually thank the Lord for allowing me the most honorable privilege to serve Him and to lift up His name in the nations. How can I ever thank Him for sending me to the deserts to feed His people. The Lord asked Peter, “lovest thou me”? And He responded to Peter by saying, “feed my sheep”. My aim and goal in life is to first live this by example in my own life and then to input this message into the lives of 21st century believers. How do we communicate Jesus in a tangible, practical way. We must first demonstrate Him with our hands before we declare Him with our mouths. God can never be separated from His people according to Matthew 25:40 and John 14:23. The Amplified Version of John 17:21 proclaims, “That they all may be one; [just] as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe and be convinced that You have sent Me. A mission that seemed impossible became possible. As Jesus declared in Matthew 19:26... “but with God ail things are possible”. This is how I look at life. When things that I face look IMPOSSIBLE, I divide the M and P and I declare that “I’m” - Possible! Not in and of myself, for according to John 15:5 Jesus declares.. .for without Me, ye can do nothing”. I CAN DO ALL things through Christ who strengthens me according to Philippians 4:13.
