CRY HAITI
Continued from Page I
“Great Prosperous” United States lies the poorest country in the
Western Hemisphere.
I find it extremely disturbing that our present government can focus
on a nation in the Arabian Gulf and totally ignore the cry of its neighbor.
Could it be that this is the case because Haiti has no lucrative resources.
How is it that we repeatedly seem to have interest in countries that have
profitable resources...like oil?
How can we ignore the cry of Haiti, how can we keep silent and
continually allow our government to legislate immigration laws that
blatantly discriminate against Haitians while all other ethnic groups,
such as Cubans, Mexicans and Vietnamese, are welcomed to our
harbors of refuge.
It is reported that the administration of Aristaide is responsible for
countless deaths. Many are alleged to be for ceremonial sacrifices.
in August of 2003, Dr. Sir Walter Mack led a delegation of his
members on what was a return mission to Haiti for him and the first for
his members. Not only did the team consist of Union Baptist members,
but he welcomed members of the team who were dedicated members
of Greater Cleveland, St. Peter’s, Stocksdale Church of God, New
Covenant Church and Victory World Outreach. Our host was the
honorable Bishop Joel Jeune of Port-au-Prince Haiti.
Bishop Jeune is the Haiti host for TBN and has a strategic ministry
that is impacting the nation of Haiti. Repeatedly he has been threatened
by the government, he reports to Dr. Sir Walter Mack, of Union Baptist
Church. He also reports that his very own colleague Pastor Jackson is
presently in custody by the tyrannical authorities of Aristaide’s adminis
tration.
Protest in the streets are appexing to the point of heated pressure.
Bishop reports that he had to flee for the safety of his life. He is present
ly unable to return to his own country!
In a recent conference call with Bishop Jeune, I asked what can we
do to help? With urgency, his response was, “Nobody believes that
these things are happening. Americans think that it is unbelievable.”
Dr. Sir Walter Mack led his congregation into prayer for Haiti during
the Sunday morning worship service. He challenged his people to call
your local newspapers, call CNN, call WXII, write to your congressman,
ask them why are we not hearing the reports of the casualties of Haiti?
We can all do something and the first place to begin is with prayer. In
Psalm 2:8, the word of God tells us to ask of Me the nations and I will
give the heathens as your inheritance and the end of the earth as your
possession.
Haiti has suffered for so long and yet we have it within our means to
make a difference. If there is any people group that should respond to
this cry, it should be the African American community. We were told
while in Haiti, that we were the 1st African American mission delegation
to come and bring humanitarian aid to the Jeunes ministry. A team of
selfless volunteers gave of their time, effort, resources and even the
threat of their lives to go in and minister love to a forsaken people.
This team was a group of people just like you and me, who refuse to
turn a deaf ear to the cry of Haiti. If you are wondering how could God
use you. I’m sure many of the team members questioned themselves in
the same manner. But later they were able to see that all God needs are
willing vessels.
Rufus Myers, a native of Winston-Salem, didn’t know how God could
use him. Many asked him are you ready, are you ready? He bowed his
knees the day before the departure and God responded to him, “Your
willingness and your faith have made you ready”. He became the “Chief
of Security” on the entire trip for everyone.
Mercedes Miller, also a native of Winston-Salem, states that the plight
of Haiti is intensified when you have a love one in the midst of the
turmoil. “My oldest sister now lives in Haiti. Giving my natural and
spiritual resources and encouraging others to do the same is vital,
because we have brothers and sisters in Haiti who are working
diligently to save the lost, feed the hungry and house the homeless. We
are needed more than we could ever imagine!
Elizabeth Robinson, a teacher in the Forsyth county school system,
reports that her compassion for the people has never ceased. She aches
inside her heart saying, “We need to band together to help the nation of
Haiti!”
Deacon Gray of Union Baptist Church, age sixty-nine, encourages the
people to know that their age doesn’t have to be a barrier. He states,
“Many need to send money, prayer and love to the people of Haiti...we
need to do whatever we can do. If anybody should be helping, it should
be the black church.”
Naomi Singletary, of Union Baptist, was a diabetic, whose insulin was in
her lost luggage while in Haiti. She also had a back injury that left her
unemployed and friends suggested she not go. Nevertheless, she felt
the Lord had made a way for her and she was determined to go despite
her obstacles. You see, what you make happen for others, God is
obligated to make happen for you and while in Haiti, Naomi received her
blessing. She said she no longer complains after witnessing the gross
poverty of the Haitian people. She realized how spoiled she was and
vowed to never complain again. When asked if she would do it again,
she responded, “in a heartbeat”, because her heart bleeds for the
suffering children of Haiti.
Each candidate optioned not to advert his or her eyes from Haiti. This
experience motivated them to know that they can never complain about
anything ever again. They both now testify to living a life counting their
blessings.
It is obvious that our government does not have Haiti-as its concern.
Our former president. Bill Clinton, placed Aristeade in office. As a nation,
we have spent over $93, 162,110.000 (93 billion one hundred sixty two
million one hundred and ten thousand dollars) on this war in Iraq. Every
48 seconds it cost the U.S. $100,000 for this war. That’s enough money
to feed the nation of Haiti for 5 years! We have yet to find weapons of
mass destruction...Selah.
Haiti presently has an external debt of $1.1-$1.2 billion. They are
currently paying it down at $50-$80 million yearly. That’s twice the
public health budget, triple the education budget and quadruple the
agriculture budget. Haiti’s debt makes up 35% of it’s GDP.
Come on people, let’s rise up and stand up for justice and equality.
Isaiah 1:17 tells us that as believers we should seek justice. The Word of
God has just as much to say about injustice as it does prosperity and
salvation.
We are couriers that execute justice in the earth. We are His ambas
sadors. Here is how YOU can help. You can seed financially to support
the Jeune family by calling our office at
888-521-0373. You can call every facet of media on a local, state and
national level and alert them to what is going on. You can write your
congressman and president. You can call TBN and ask, “Why are they
not sharing the suffering side of Haiti?” You can call the 700 Club, The
Word Channel and M.B.C. and ask the same. Most importantly, you can
pray for Haiti; that God would intervene on the behalf of His people to
deliver them. Pray for the victim’s families. There have been many
students injected with the AIDS virus and babies kidnapped for
sacrificial ceremonies!
IT’S TIME TO HEAR THE CRY OF HAITI!
