The AC Phoenix January 2004 Page 55 this life on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center. He resided at 4035 Menfreya Court in Winston- Salem. He was a graduate of Anderson High School and attended Winston-Salem State University. He retired from Oldtown Country Club after 23 years of dedicated service. He was also a profound entrepreneur, maintaining a successful bartending and catering business. As he touched many lives, his absence will be deeply felt. He is survived by five children, Pat Watkins, Eldridge Jr. (Kimberly), April “Tinker Bell” (Calvin), Michael Martin and DeMarco Odom; a sister, Velma Blackwall; an aunt, Era Jones; five grandchildren, Raymond, Temeshia, Torey, Jazzmia and E-lizah; three devoted great-nieces, Rochelle, Dorothy Hope and Beverly; a special friend, Betty Terry; and a host of other relatives and friends. A homegoing service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in the chapel of Russell Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward W. Green officiating. (Russell) Kinard, Annie Elizabeth Johnson Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Johnson Kinard, 94, of 2512 Glenn Ave., passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at her residence. She was born Dec. 28, 1908, to Susie Johnson and Benjamin McLean. Most of her life was spent in Winston-Salem, where she attended Depot School. She married James H. Kinard Sr. and from this union were born three children. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., No. 256, after 31 years of service. Preceding her in death were her husband, James H. Kinard Sr.; a sister, Annie Mae Sutton; a grandson, James R. Glenn; a son, James H. Kinard Jr.; and a brother, William L. Johnson. Surviving are two daughters, Mary K. Douthit and Claudette K. Eldridge, both of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Anthony Kinard Sr., Stephanie K. Frazier, Michael A. Douthit, Valerie D. Douthit and Jeffrey Douthit, all of Winston-Salem and Benita W. McCoy of Greensboro; six great-grandchildren, starting with her favorite musician, Tika S. Douthit, Delphine Frazier, Monica Frazier, Anthony Kinard Jr., and Anthony Holt II, all of Winston- Salem and Rickie Pate of Raleigh; two great-great-grand- children; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service was held at 1;30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at St. John Baptist Church, with the Rev. Leonard Lewis officiating. (Russell) McCloud, Gastello Marshall Mrs. Castello Marshall McCloud departed this life on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on April 27,1912, in Wadesboro, the third child of the Rev. James and Garthanne Marshall. She moved to Winston-Salem as a young adult and was employed at Camel City Laundry until her retirement. She resided at 955-D. Mt. Zion Place prior to her residing at Silas Creek Manor Nursing Center. In the early years, she was a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church, and she later joined Galilee Baptist Church when it was a basement church. She became a faithful, dedicated, loyal and active member of Galilee Baptist Church until her health failed. She served as exemplary and committed president of the Nurses’ Board for more than 30 years. Her pride and joy came from the substantial monetary donations she made to the church each year at the Nurses’ Anniversary. Mrs. McCloud was a member of the Tribe of Naphtali. As a homemaker, she loved to cook, quilt, can and take care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was guided in the rearing of her children by her dearly beloved sister-in-law, affectionately known as “Aunt Hannah.” Her family was central to her life, and she loved her children dearly. The generosity and compassion she exhibited to her family and friends were exemplary to her Christian life. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ethel McCloud; and a daughter-in-law, Evie McCloud. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Bernice Kimbrough of Winston-Salem; her sons, Booker T. (Earlyne) McCloud of Winston-Salem, Charles McCloud of Randallstown, Md., Demark (Earnestine) McCloud of Woodland, Md., and Stephen (Velma) McCloud of Pfafftown; a sister, Annabelle Copel of Atlanta, Ga; in the early years a devoted son-in- law, Gregory Kimbrough; a godchild, Emma Cash; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great- grandchildren; a great-great- great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; as well as special caregivers at Silas Creek Manor. We shall miss her deeply and we shall cherish her memory always. The funeral ser vice was held at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 27, at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Robert McGowens officiating. (Russell) Moore, Clara Mae Clements Mrs. Clara Mae Clements Moore of 200 N. Peacehaven Road passed away on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Tuskegee, Ala., to the union of Willie Lee Clements and Jency Ray Clements. She was married to Jim Henry Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Lee Clements and Jency Ray Clements; her husband, Jim Henry Moore; her brothers, Eddie Mack Warren, Ernest and Willie; and her sisters, Dorothy Clements and Mamie Gamble. She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Calvin Eugene Clements and daughter-in-law, Paulette P. Clements; three grandchildren, Cassandra Jones, Calvin and Warrenetta; two sisters, Lucille Logan and Bertha Garey of New Jersey; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives; and her godson, Tyrone Stowe. A funeral service was conducted at noon Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Serenus Churn Sr. officiating. (Russell) Patterson, Reba Eleanor Mrs. Reba Eleanor Patterson, 83, of 608 Kinard Drive was called to rest Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at her residence fol lowing a short illness. She was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Loray to John J. Morrison and Zora C. Morrison. She was a retired employee with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system as a food nutritionist and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church USA, were she was a mem ber of the Secret Pal Club. She was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves to mourn her loving sister, Annie M. Leach of the home; her brother, Percy M. Morrison of Winston-Salem; three devoted sisters-in-law, Mirian P. Littlejohn, Faye P. Eldridge and Claudia Morrison of Detroit, Mich.; two devoted nieces, Elaine (Tony) Thompson and Debbie (Wayne) Baskins; a cousin, Ozel Long; her caregivers, Betty Brown, Georgia Smith and Okanecia Rorre; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24,at Grace Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Samuel Stevenson officiating. (Russell) Plater, Lawarna Vernetra Mrs. Lawarna Vernetra Plater of 1344 Pleasant St. passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Nov. 28,1959, in Forsyth County. She was a graduate of Reynolds High School, class of 1978, and was last employed at Johnson Control Battery Co. She joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church at the age of 13 under the pastorate of the late Dr. K.O.P. Goodwin. At Mount Zion she was a member of the Inspirational Choir, the Ladies’ Usher Board, the Singles’ Ministry, the Pastor’s Bible Class, Sunday School Class 6 and the Food Service Committee. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Charles Humphrey. She is survived by a daughter, Dementrice Plater of Charlotte; a son, David Plater Jr. of the home; her father, Thomas Humphrey Jr. of Winston-Salem; a brother, Thomas (Lucero) Humphrey ill of Bristow, Va.; and several other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held at noon Friday, Dec. 5, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, with Dr. Serenus T. Churn Sr. officiating. (Russell) Royster, Doris Luvenia Graham Mrs. Doris Luvenia Graham Royster, 82, of C.R.T. Golden Lamb Rest Home in Winston-Salem passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born July 18,1921, to Joshua Christopher and Nettie Edwards Graham. The funeral was held at 12;30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Reginald Lament Booker officiating. (Russell) Vaughn, Geraldine Delores Ms. Geraldine Delores Vaughn, 68, of 216 Terrace Ave. passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was a native and resident of Winston-Salem and was of the Baptist faith. Ms. Vaughn was a devoted homemaker. She is survived by two brothers, Milton Vaughn and Curtis (Claudine) Vaughn; a sister, Jacqueline Vaughn; a goddaughter. Crystal Barnes, all of Winston-Salem; and many dear nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, in the chapel of Russell Funeral Home with the Rev. L.S. Werts officiating. (Russell) Wilson, James Alex On the eve of Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, James Alex “Rat” Wilson of 416-C Highland Ave. departed this life at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Winston-Salem to Issac Washington and Louise Blackstock Wilson. Educated in the local public schools, he was a graduate of Atkins High School, class of 1941. He was a member of the U.S. armed forces from 1943 to 1946. James was united in holy matrimony to the former Christine Gray and they had three children. He was a retired employee of Piedmont Airlines. He was a Baptist by faith and a former member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. “Rat,” as he was affectionately called, was a friend to the community. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and four brothers, James “Bing” Wilson, Woodrow Wilson, Robert Wilson and Amos Ulysses Wilson. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, James “Sonny” (Olivia) Wilson Jr. of Charlotte and Harold Ray (Mary) Donovant of Atlanta, Ga.; a devoted daughter. Sherry Wilson Horton; two grandchildren, Kimberley (Craig) Nieto of Fayetteville and Kelly (Stacy) Horton of Kernersville; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Natalie and Zoe; a sister, Helen Wilson Falls; two brothers, William (Ricky) Wilson and Thurman (Costella) Wilson of Chicago, III.; two sisters-in-law, Annie Pearl Wilson and Eleanor Wilson of Hightstown, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
