Page 4 November 2004 The AC Phoenix \ DENNIS A. MOSER NAMED 2005 PRINCIPAl OF THE YEAR Dennis A. Moser, the principal of the Career Center, was named the 2005 Wachovia Principal of the Year for Winston- Salem/Forsyth County Schools at a breakfast ceremony this morning. Moser was chosen among 70 principals in the district. He has been the principal at the Career Center since 2001 and was nominated for the award by teachers and by a media-center assistant at the school. At a lunchtime reception given by his staff, Moser said, "This has been a fun day. Thank you all. This award means a lot to me personally and it's wonderful to have the Career Center family so involved." As principal of the Career Center, Moser oversees a wide-ranging program that is unlike any other in Forsyth County. High school students from throughout the school system choose to come to the Career Center for Advanced Placement classes, higher-level career and technical educa tion courses and other complementary courses. The school also offers extended day classes for students who need to make up a course required for graduation. Moser began his career with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools in 1983 as a high-school English teacher. He also served as an assistant principal at Clemmons Elementary School and Parkland High School. Before mov ing to the Career Center, he was a principal at Jefferson Elementary School. Moser holds a doctorate degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and master's degrees from UNC-Greensboro and the University of New Orleans. He will compete with other local award recipients from the central region of the state. The award program is co-spon- sored by the N.C. Department of Public Instruction and the Wachovia Bank Corporation. This is the 21st year that Wachovia has sponsored the financial awards. Local principals of the year receive $200. The regional Wachovia principals of the year receive $1,500 for their school and $1,500 for their personal use. The 2005 Wachovia Principal of the Year will receive $3,000 for his or her school and $3,000 for personal use. Regional award recipients will be selected by February 2005 and the state Wachovia Principal of the Year will be announced on April 7, 2005. The 2004 Wachovia Principal of the Year is John R. Black of Longview Elementary School in the Hickory City School System. Finalists for Principal of the Year for Winston- Salem/Forsyth County Schools included Marilyn "Tobie" Arnold of Old Town Elementary School, Nathaniel Barber of North Hills Elementary School, Steve Flora of Easton Elementary School and Marion Pittman-Couch of Paisley Magnet School.
