October 23, 1931 QUEENS BLUES Five Freshman’s Diary Saturday, October 10: Could hardly get through classes this morning! Left for home 'bout twelve-thirty—so thrilled to see my mom ’n pop, could hardly wiggle. And, oh gosh, did I have a good time tonight ? Oooooooh I! Sunday, October 11: Left both hats at school, so had to wear mom’s to church, just had to go! It had the cutest veil, and I felt just like a college girrul in it! Mom stayed home. Oh, yeah, we had the bestest dinner, chicken, and dressing, and sweet potatoes, ’n’ everything, and chocolate pud ding, and cake. Mmmmmmmm! Monday, October 12: Got up at five-thirty, and started out for school. Hated to leave home, but this is a pretty good place after all—’cept on Monday mornings, y’know. Tuesday, October 13: Actually got “good” on a theme in Mrs. Townend’s class! It’s practically in my scrap book already. Had a pledge meeting this afternoon, and did awful. Wednesday, October 14: Wotta day! Not a thing nice or un usual has happened. Got a old test on “Bugs” tomorrow. I want to go home! Bad!! Thursday, October 15: I would go and study the wrong thing for that quiz !! I studied all the hard things, and teacher asked all the easy on§s. Oh, well, “Just another day wasted away.” Catch me studying again. Frida}^ October 16: Didn’t get a speck of mail! And after I spent all last week writing let ters. Anybody that wouldn't write a college girl! Saturday, October 17: Satur day!!! Went to town this after noon like all other good girls, and nearly froze to death. Went to Sally’s, and for no reason at all felt very swanky. Sunday, October 18: Slept this morning, and made the best old hot chocolate in my room for breakfast. Read Bible parallel all afternoon, like a good little girl. Vesper services were beauti ful tonight. Grandest feed at the house. Light Procters Put To Work Light Procters have been ap pointed for each dormitory. It is their duty to see that all lights go off in their hall exactly at the stroke of ten-thirty; excepting seniors, the house president sees to them. If }'ou should wonder why these procters are so very particular about your lights being out, it’s because the bills are sent to them when lights are left burn ing when they should be out. Mada Brown is in Morrison Gay McNeill in South and Vir ginia Parsons in North, and they don’t mind leaving you in the dark. Candle Light Service Held For New Girls The Choral Club The Choral Club has trulyr be gun its work in earnest. Miss Starr has about twenty members this year, and altogether they are a grand looking, and sounding bunch, if you ask me. The old favorites of last year's Christmas program are being used over and new favorites are being learned. Everything looks prosperous. Let’s all give Miss Starr a cheer of congratulation, and good luck. For, after all, isn’t she respon sible ? ❖ JOHN Q. MYERS, JR. REALTY COMPANY Dial 4237 IO9V2 S. The usual candle light service was most impressive. The Cabinet marched in singing “Father of Lights,” accompanied by Evelyn Erwin, organist. After the Cabinet was seated on the stage Mary' McChesny offered a praver and Annie Belle Smith ad dressed the new girls and re-read the pledge which was formerly signed by the whole student body. After her appeal the girls re ceived a light from her candle and thus symbolically showed their ardor for burning the Light of Christ. Ruth Gander Maaten replied to the invitation of mem bership to the Student Christian Association on behalf of the new members. She praised highly the work of the Student Christian Association, its hospitality and service to her fellow students. To the tune of “Follow the Gleam,” the Cabinet and new members led the entire assembly- out on the lawn. All the mem bers wearing white dresses and those bearing candles made a most impressive scene as they filed out of the auditorium and formed a large circle. After two verses of “Blessed Be the Tie That Binds,” Dr. Frazer pro nounced the benediction.
