w Page 4 QUEENS BLUES October 15, 1937 rc *s j V i Sophs And Frosh Elect Officers At a recent meeting of the Sopho more Class, Eleanor Guyton was elected president of the class and Hannah McNulty was elected vice- president. The officers had rotated their of fices, but this was declared against Parliamentary procedure. Mary Cur rie presided over the meeting, where it was moved that Eleanor be put up for president of the class and that a vice-president he elected in her place. Other officers of the class are Anne Fuller, secretary, and Madeline Lot- terhos, treasurer. On Wednesday, October 13, the Freshmen class also elected Mildred Sneeden as class chairman. Each year in the fall, the Freshmen elect a chairman who acts as head of the class until the election of a perman ent president at the beginning of the second semester. Others elected at this time were: Mary Payne, stunt night chairman, and Jean Ferguson, chairman of pro gram for rat week. Sybil Trexler was elected Queen Sophomore, one of the principal characters in the Fresh men’s rat-week entertainment for the Sophomores. Dr. Lambie Speaks At Queens Vespers Introduced as “The man without a country,” Dr. T. A. Lambie was guest speaker at Queens-Chicora Vespers on the first October Sun day. Stirring the hearts of his student listeners. Dr. Lambie, medical mis sionary to Ethiopia, told of the hardships and trials endured by him and his fellow-workers before and during Italy’s invasion of this Afri can country. He described the ways of traveling through Ethiopia and related many incidents of the war and of his contacts with Ethiopian nobility. C. 304 New Books Are In Queens Library Miss Harrill has recently stated that there are three hundred and four new books in tbe Queens-Chicora library. In Mrs. Lyon’s library, which she left to Queens-Chicora, there are ninety-six books of English Litera ture. Forty-two new books have been placed on tbe reserve shelves for the use of students taking the new course in Ancient Culture. Others have also been added for use of stu dents and faculty. This is a large addition to the library and it is hoped that the stu dents will take advantage of this new opportunity. Tennis Matches To Be Held Here Atbletic Council, at a recent meet ing, decided to sponsor a fall ten nis tournament, beginning with semi finals on October 26, tbe finals to be played the next day. Preliminary matches will begin just prior to that date. Volley ball practices has already begun, and tbe inter-class semi-finals will be played on November 10, finals on November 11. The following Tues day a Day-Student-Boarder contest will be played. Delegates Report On Conference At Davidson College A very interesting program was presented to the Queens-Chicora stu dents during Sunday night Vespers last week by girls who attended the Davidson conference last June. Tbe delegates were introduced by Helen Jenkins who led the services. Following a brief worship program, they told of their part in the con ference. Describing the courses tak en there, the recreational features provided, and the different speakers who brought vital messages to this assemblage of young people, the Queens girls stressed the fact that the time spent there had meant so much in their lives and expressed the hope that many others would have the opportunity to attend one of these summer conferences in the fu ture. Delegates who brought back re ports were: Peggy Sloop, Mildred Lowrance, Lucielle Gwaltney, and Vivi Taylor. Other delegates on the stage were Mary Louise Spratt and Carolyn Reynolds.
