T ! March 12, 1938 Chi Omega Has Annual Banquet For Initiates Tlie Theta Gamma Chai)ter of Chi Omega Fraternity held its initiation banquet Saturday night, March 5, at the Hotel Charlotte. The banquet table was arranged in the form of a horse shoe, and bowls of mixed flowers of cardinal and straw, the sorority colors, form ed the decorations. Place cards and programs were of cardinal engraved with the gold seal of Chi Omega. The initiates were presented with onyx glove vanities. Elizabeth Gammon was toastmis- tress for the evening. She for mally opened the banquet and intro duced Elizabeth Calder, president of the chapter, who gave a toast to the initiates. Marie Koseman res])onded. Mary Currie gave a toast to Chi Omega and this was followed by one to the actives by Carolyn Reynolds. Ruth Knee responded. Nancy Hovis made a toast to the alumnae and Mrs. Gale Rogers resj)onded. Sue Mauldin then gave some informal notes on the chapter. Eleanor Alexander, pledge instruc tor, presented Marie Roseman with a ring hearing the seal of Chi Omega as an award for being the best all- around pledge. Maujer Moseley was chosen model initiate and June Es- cott’s song was chosen as the best pledge song. The banquet was continued with the singing of Chi Omega songs and was formally ended with the singing of the Panhellenic Toast. The new initiates are Anne Pur nell, Marie Roseman, June Escott, Mary Payne, Maujer Moseley, Judith Killian, Natalie Nivens, Caroline Sibley, Hebe McQueen, and Peggy Williams. QUEENS BLUES Page 3 Spectator Club Has Dick Pitts As Speaker “The Paint Pallette” held its monthly meeting Monday, February 6, at the Phi Mu house. Anita Stewart and Sybil Trexler were Joint hostesses. Dick Pitts, a critic and artist on the staff of the Charlotte Observe’r, was the guest speaker. Mr. Pitts, a talented artist, illustrated his in teresting talk by sketches. Light refreshments were served to Mr. Pitts, Miss IJllian Bremer, fac ulty adviser, and the following mem bers: Hazel Adams, Alice Barron, Jessie Rose Clarke, Kay Duncan, Jean Ferguson, Katherine Raiford, Anita Stewart, and Sybil Trexler. Vera Boulware and Elizabeth Harms were special guests. Adele Sutherland is recovering rapidly from an o])eration for ap pendicitis. Sara Liles of Rockingham, N. C., spent last week-end in Charlotte with Bertha Burch and was present at the Chi Omega banquet. Elizabeth Gammon has returned to Charlotte from Augusta, Ga., where she spent a few days. While there, she attended the IRack and White Cotillion given by the ILichelor’s Club. Jean Stough of Cornelius, N. C., attended the Chi Omega banquet. Mrs. Warren Booker has returned to this city from Raleigh, where she spent a few days this week. Mrs. Ed Saylor, who was formerly Miss Nancy Phillips, recently moved to Charlotte from Atlanta, Georgia. She was a Chi Omega at Queens- Chicora College. Frances Stough spent last week end at her home in Cornelius, N. C. Miss Kathryn Curran was a guest at the Sunday night feed, March 7. She has Just recently moved hack to Charlotte from Richmond, Va. Nancy Raley spent the week-end of February 2() at her home in Rid)y, Alpha Delta Pi Entertains New Members Sara Kelly Williard and Peggy Williams will be the guests of Frances Stough at her home in Cornelius this week-end. Those Queens sweaters are still the rage on the camjnis, even with the coming of spring. Spring holidays begin March 31. Also before that time quarterly tests will be given. Beta Iota cha])ter of Alpha Delta Pi sorority held its initiation pro gram at the home of Mrs. Odell Long Saturday afternoon, and following the services the active chapter entertain ed the new initiates with a banquet held in the priv^ate dining room of Thackers. The dining room was dec orated by the huge diamond-shaped pin of Alpha Delta Pi which hung above the table. Miss Eugenia LaFitte, president of tbe group, presented the following new members of tbe sorority: Marjory Russell, Lenore Russell, Jean Miller, and Edith Tinsley, all of Florence, and Margaret Lloyd of Anderson, S. C., Catherine King, Lumberton, and Anneal Triplette of Lenoir. Sally McDowell presided as toast mistress for the evening. Toasts were given by Frances MarSan O’Hair, Jessie Good, and the main speaker was Jane Steel of Charlotte, province president. A loving cup was presented to Snoodie Matheson as the best-all round pledge. Jean Miller got hon orable mention for scholarship. Each new initiate received a gold link bracel«it engraved with the Greek letters of the sorority. The ban quet was closed with the singing of “I Love the Pin.” Guests included the actives, new initiates, pledges, and alumnae mem hers. Sue Welch visited friends in Win ston-Salem last week-end. The organ has been fixed finally, and also the bells regulated, so now we run by a new schedule. Alpha Delta Theta Marion Teal sjient the week-end of February 2(i at her home in Chesterfield, S. C. S. C. Miss Rosalind Carhett, of Mehane, N. C., spent the week-end of March 5 with Sara DuRant and Lynch Crockett. Miss Carhett is an alumna of Alpha Delta Theta sorority and was here to attend initiation and the banquet. Ellen Hardee went to he^ home in Graham on the week-end.of February Henrietta Mclver spent the week end of February 25 at home. Marjorie and Frances Poole went to their home in Mullins, S. C., on the week-end of the 25th. Frances Gunn, Harriet Brown, and Nancy Mclver, and Lynch Crockett, after Initiation, spent the re mainder of the week - end with Kathryn Lowrance, who is one of the alumna of Alpha Delta Theta. Ellenore Eddy and Frances Earn hardt spent the week-end of the 25th at their homes in Pinehurst. Phi Mu Dot Alexander entertained at a dinner party on the evening of Feb ruary 22. The following guests were present. Carolyn Wolfe, Margaret Porter, Betty Gardner, Hibernia Friend, Frances Marian O'Hair, Betsy Springer and Mimi Bradham. After dinner Bingo and other games were played. Mary Gilmer Richmond has had as a recent visitor her mother, and dur ing her stay here, Mrs. Richmond was a guest at the Phi Mu Sunday night feed. Mimi Bradham spent the last Sun day in February with her juirents, who were in Charlotte for the day Catherine Todd spent the week-end of March 6th with Alene Ward. Mi.ss Todd is a Phi Mu alum and was here for initiation. Inspector Is Honored By Phi Mus Gamma Gamma chapter of Phi Mu national sorority entertained with a tea last week in honor of Miss Meta Shaw, national inspector, who was here for Inspection of the loca chapter. The tea was held at the sorority house. Phi Mu Gives Banquet Tea For Initiates Honoring their new initiates, the active members of Phi Mu sorority entertained for them in the form of a banquet given in a private dining room of the S & W Cafeteria. The decorations carried out the sorority colors, rose and white. A large shield decorated with the sorority flowers was used as a centerpiece for the banquet table. Miss Julie Thomas acted as toast mistress. Toasts were given during the course of the evening by Lois Hodges, Lib Imbody, and others. A skit was ])resented by several of the actives. Miss Hodges was presented with a guard for her pin in recognition of her services as president of the chapter during the ])ast year. Mary Gilmer Richmond of Concord was presented with the recognition pin for being the best-all-round pledge Mimi Bradbam received the scholar ship award. 'The special guest speaker of the evening was Miss Ann Cleve land Doner of the University' of Vir ginia, who is Province President. She was in Charlotte to attend the initiation and banquet. Ermine Waddill was presented with the Kaj)pa Delta recognition ring for being the best-all-round pledge. Alice Croswell received a recognition pin for having gotten the highest scholas tic average for the year. Kappa Delta songs were sung be tween the courses and the program was closed with the linking of arms to form the “Friendship Circle” for th^ loving cup ceremony'. Honor guests of the evening were Mrs.. Virginia Miller Agnew, Mrs. J. N. Godard, Mrs. Floyd Strawn, Miss Ann Cleveland Doner, Miss Frances Smith, faculty adviser, and the patronesses of the sorority’.
