1 Page 2 Views At 'And Interviews With Our New Faculty Number 1 of A Series Introducing Them To Us By Alice Payne Introducing Frank E. Numbers! (The E. stands for Eckert, girls.) Pennsylvania Dutch, he calls it. He’s one of the new faculty members, and he comes to us directly from the Con servatory of Music of Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio. His field is music, and he teaches orchestration, music education, piano, voice, and all the wind instruments. Speaking of voice, Mr. Numbers possesses a beautiful tenor voice. Ah, but unfortunately, he’s already engaged to be married to a beautiful brunette Ohioan. His hobbies are bridge, golf, ten nis, and football games. He hates red polish, 8:30 classes, and fast dancing. His likes are vanilla milk shakes, steaks, mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows, and iced tea, in the line of food. (Miss Squires, please take note.) More likes are the Faculty at Queens, his Ford, and the sorority houses. He still thinks he should be rushed by the sororities. He is the freak in his family, to quote him, because no one else is musical. He is in Class 1-B in the draft classification, meaning he is subject to call if the Army needs him. He thinks the College is very well-planned and hopes the dream of a Greater Queens will very soon be realized. For further details, consult your college newspaper. Presenting Next Week: Mr. Melvin Watson Gift To Queens A 16-millimeter Keystone moving picture projector has been presented to Queens College by Mr. W. Irving Bullard, of 2208 Sherwood Avenue, Charlotte. This new equipment will enable the college to use educational films, which are now playing such an important part in visual educa tion. The new Alumnae Secretary, Miss Virginia Smith, will be able to show pictures of activities on tbe campus to interested groups of alumnae. In this way the public will be kept informed of the improvements and progress in the work of education at Queens College. IMPROVEMENTS ADD TO COLLEGE (Continued from Page One) Blair Union, the day student build ing, has been completely redecorated, and has been equipped for the com fort and pleasure of the day students. The boarding students are to be allowed to have dates in this build ing, with approved chaperons present. Two new rooms have been added, and the bouse re modelled. Sorority Row has a new walk. It is made of flagstones and runs the lengt hof Sorority Row with a pri vate walk to each chapter house. Sev eral new practice rooms have been added in the Music Building. Queens College now has the distinction of being one of the few colleges that owns and operates its own switch board. In addition to the physical improvements, two new offices have been added, those of the Alumnae Secretary, and Public Reltaions Manager. QUEENS BLUES October 7, 1941 Dr. Hunter Blakely In this first issue of the QUEENS BLUES, I count it a high privilege to extend a welcome to students and faculty. Especially do we welcome the new members of our faculty and the new students who have come to be part of our Queens College family. We hope that this will indeed be a true family circle in which we share our joys one with another, are mutually helpful in our tasks, and assist one another in our burdens and problems. We are planning and hoping for a greater Queens College. The morale and the spirit that we maintain on the campus of co-operation and enthusiasm will help more than anything else in carrying us forward to our goal. Every student is an important factor in the making of a greater college. Friends will judge Queens College not by our buildings or equipment but by the character and loyalty of those who go to make up the Queens College family. College life, like life in general, is a great game. None of us should seek to be stars but all good players. We should co-operate and always be willing to make a sacrifice play. Every game has its rules and the best games are those in which the players abide by the rules. This year at Queens College let us be a great team out to win. Hunter B. Blakely.
