Carson, Vice- President of Queens College, will deliver the address when stu dents and alumnae observe Founder’s Day on November 14. The Founder’s Day dinner is to be held at six o’clock in Mor rison Dining Room. Dr. Carson will speak at this time. The Founder’s Day programs are spon sored by the Alumnae Associa tion. Mrs. Robert Howerton is president of the Alumnae Asso ciation. There were a hundred alumnae at Homecoming last May. It is hoped that there will be even more here when Founder’s Day is observed this year. C., and Cathey Leeper of Elkin.—(Photo courtesy Charlotte Observer), Councils Sponsor Open House An open house will be held for the student body on campus Saturday night, November 15th This is under the sponsorship of Boarding and Day Student Coun cils. The evening will open with en tertainment in the Auditorium given by the Coronet Staff, with B. J. Fant presiding over the occasion as master of ceremo nies. The program will include a song and dance by Sunny Rose, a display of our freshmen talent in several dance numbers, songs by the Queens trio, specialties by Louise White and Torch-singer Isley, skills from the coeds, and coming to a climax with the main show “Little Red Riding Hood and the D. C.’’ (Davidson Col lege!) Following this program of en tertainment there will be dancing in the recreation room, cards in the Lounge, and refreshments served in Blair Union. All students are urged to come out and join in an evening of fun. All proceeds will go to the Coronet Staff to make our an nual a bigger and better one. Let’s see you there. Miss Foxworth Campus Guest On December tenth, eleventh, and twelfth, we will be honored by having Miss Eleanor Fox- worth as a guest on our campus. This past summer she began her work as Traveling Secretary for the Committee of Christian Edu cation and Ministerial Relief of the Southern Presbyterian Church. It is in this capacity that Miss Foxworth comes to us. It is her work to visit the various college campuses and confront the young people with the chal lenge of finding and following the will of God in connection with their choice of their life’s work. Queen's Players Organize The first meeting of the Queens Players met with a huge response from the student body. Thirty- five girls turned out on October 31 to enlist their efforts toward a dramatic club on Queens cam pus. Outstanding Students Are Honored Buford Bobbitt, Eleanor Huske, Cathey Leeper, Betty McMurray, Ruth Magrath, and Betty Sue Trulock have been nominated by a committee of students and fac ulty members to represent Queens College in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universi ties and Colleges. Who’s Who is a national hon orary organization to which ov er 600 American colleges and universities elect representatives. The number of representatives to be elected is determined by the enrollment of the institution. The purpose of Who’s Who is to serve as an incentive to stu dents for getting the most out of their careers, as a means of com pensation to students for what they have done, as a standard of measurement for students, and as a recommendation of students to the business world. Character, scholarship, leader ship in extra-curricular activi ties, and potentiality for future usefulness to business and so ciety are requisites for member ship. Queens is proud that six of its student body have more than amply met these requirements. Each of the nominated young women is outstanding in char acter, in scholarship, and in lead ership abilities. The extra-curric ular activities and honors of these Queens include: Buford Bobbitt—W.C.U.N.C. 1, 2; Freshman Commission; Legis lature, 2. One of the many Char- (Continued on page 5) A native of Kingstree, S. C., Miss Foxworth has had a great deal of experience working with young people. Before taking this present position she was head of student work at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Many of us had the privilege of meeting Miss Fox worth at Montreat this summer and we are so happy to welcome her to our campus. Miss Strickland greeted the group and made a talk concern ing the aims and purpose of the club. She stated that the club would be limited to forty-five girls and those veterans who are interested in the club. The veter ans’ presence is needed in the organization. Miss Strickland fur ther pointed out that the club will be divided into three major fields: play production, radio, and acting. Each member is asked to concentrate in one field, but there will be ample opportunities for everyone in all three during the year. Calendar Of Events A steering committee was ap pointed to nominate a slate of of ficers for the club. Florence Rob inson was chairman, and Eliza beth Beall, Meredith Henry, and Arnette Avery served on the com mittee. The slate nominated was as follows: President—Edwina McDill.
