February, 1965 THE SPECTATOR Page Three I by David Cannady Since the last issue of “The Spec tator”, the Wildcats have won 2 games and lost 4, to bring their con ference record to 4-5 and an over all standing of 7-8. They have met defeat at the hands of Hillsboro, Roxboro, Henderson, and Chapel Hill (twice). Their vic tories have been over Jordan of Durham and Southern Durham. Leading in the scoring depart ment are David Cannady with a 13.2 average. Bob Keyes with 10..3, and Jim Byars with 10.1. Bob Keyes, Jim Byars, and L. G. Jones have been grabbing the most re bounds. Jim Byars has improved his play and has really been play ing inspired ball, while Tony Oakes has been seeing considerably more action and has become almost in valuable in the backcourt. In their last outing the Wildcats missed the services of Rhem Hutch inson who was out with a sprained ankle and who missed a couple of more games. With only five conference games jleft and the loss of six seniors after this season, many of you may be joining Coach Graham in wonder ing where he’s going to find re placements. Naturally the first place to look is the junior varsity squad. Thus far this year these boys under the guidance of Coach Kenneth “Bear” Bryan, new to Webb, have compiled an 8-6 record. The team is as follows: guards, Gary Cash, Jimmy Wright, Gilbert Hensgen, and Tommy Arrington; at., the for,r ward position, Robert Powell, Char les Piper, A1 Slaughter, Henry Jen nings, Jimmy Williams, William Landis, and Ronnie Burnette; and ■at center, Mike Arrington. Leading scorers are Mike Arring ton with a 12.9 average and Charles Piper who has hit about 50% of his attempts from the floor. Robert Powell and A1 Slaughter have been supplying the rebound strength, while Jimmy Wright and Gary Cash have looked best on defense. Gil bert Hensgen has done a, fine ball handling job and probably boasts the highest percentage from the charity line. Congratulations, fel lows! Hope to see many of you in a varsity uniform next year. Thanks, Fellows Thanks go to the managers and statisticians from the respective coaches and players on a tough 'job well done. These boys are Frank Dixon, Bev Norwood, Hughie Par rot, Marty Yancey, Jeff Saunders, Henri De Vos, Mike Saunders, Wayne Hicks, and David Wilson. Trailing by 42-28 with three minutes remaining, Webb put on a full-court press and outscored the visitors, 17-5. The Wildcat rally ended on Jim Byar’s jump shot as the buzzer sounded.
