PAGE FOUR THE SPECTATOR FEBRUARY, 1968 By Dal Mackie Since the last issue of the paper has come out, much exciting bask etball has been played with the Wildcats faring well in its games. Webb now is sporting a 6-6 confer ence record and an 8-6 slate over- all. Top scorers for the Wildcats in clude Dal Mackie with an average of 12.7, George Thorpe with 10.7, and “T-Bird” Arrington with 9.2. The Wildcats, this year, seem to have a characteristic not possessed by preceding basketball teams. This is the desire to win, which our great football team maintained this past season. After winning two of the first three games of the season, the team was off to change its reputa tion as being the “pushover” and the undisputed occupant of the lea gue cellar. So far, only Jordan, who outclasses everybody, has completely routed Webb in its two encounters. The remaining teams have been sur prised at Webb’s toughness and .many times have fallen in defeat. The winningest season at Webb be fore this year has been 1964 when the Wildcats finished with a 7-7 conference record and 10-11 over all. The Wildcats of this season have a desire to achieve an import ant goal. With a 8-6 record, the goal in sight for our boys is to produce the winningest season ever at Webb. Effort, desire, and unity, all which have been lacking through out Webb’s earlier campaigns, great ly favor the Webb Wildcats basket ball team’s chances of making this a record season. Coach Stan Bowles has met with all baseball candidates except the one’s already participating in sports and reported a total of 30 seeking to make the team. The Spectator would like to wish Coach Bowles the best of luck with the team this season. TOO LIFELIKE The latest toy was gift-giving to a new Mother-in-Law Doll.
