Senior Directory Many seniors have planned their careers for the future. “The Owl” has made in quiries among the seniors and their plans at the present time arc as follows; Bettie Lou Blackwell, Pat Dickerson, Jackie Shaw, “Doogic” Peele, Billie Black- well, Bobby Currin, Violette Parham, and Gwen Sherman have chosen East Carolina to prepare themselves for the future. State has claimed Ronald Sneed, Billy Batts, Warren Stephenson and Leonard Dean. Many of our girls plan to enter the field of nursing. They arc Gerleen Hester Watts; Dorothy Averett, Daphne Bur nette, Jean Burwell, and Ann Rogers, Dan ville Memorial Hospital; and Jean Sher man, U. N. C. School of Nursing. Hoke Huss, “Kink” Taylor, Dick Taylor, Woodrow Thomasson, and J. B. Clay plan to enter Carolina. Wake Forest claims Billy Sneed, Nick Bragg, and Ben Averett. Those planning to take up some field of business administration are Betty Hilbert, Mattie Ann Gooch, Jean Wheeler, Laura Hunt, Edith Evans, Maynard Averett and Eugenia Brummitt. E. B. Averett has already joined the U. S. Navy. Three girls have already taken business courses at Fuller’s Secretarial School. They are Rachel Matthews, Barbara Brooks and Willie Bell Boyd. Julia Ellington plans to work at Butner Hospital. Other students planning to enter college are Edith Newton, Spartanburg Junior College, Spartanburg, S. C.; Bettie Sue Knott, Meredith; Joy Burwell, W. C.; Ellie Mitchell, Greensboro College; Ann Clark, Louisburg College; and Julia Ham- me, St. Mary’s. Jimmy Wrenn and James Belcher plan to be tobacconists. Those who are undecided as to what they will do are Ted Morton, Laura Hunt, Lindsay Currin, Cleveland Connell, Donald Hedgepeth, and Elizabeth Finch. Julia Brooks is the only member of the Class of ’54 who plans to be married in the very near future—June 6. Charles M. Barker, III CONGRATULATIONS SENIORS From Winners of Bond Awards Revealed Curtis Tillotson became a two-time win ner of the Band’s most valuable player award, a silver cup awarded aiuiually to a member of the Band by the Woman’s Club. The presentation was made at the May Band Concert by Mrs. George Duffy, Club president. Tillotson won the club award in 1951. Should he win again, it will become his permanent property. Other awards given by the Band Boosters Club were presented by Mr. Somerville to Johnny Welch for musicianship, Dick Tay lor for leadership, and Violette Parham for cooperation. Dick Taylor presented to the Band Boos ters Club a check for $18, a gift from the Six Sharps, a dance band composed of six members of the band. The check repre- Charlie Is Our Guy Charles Macon Barker, HI, known to the Seniors as “Charlie, my boy”, was elected class mascot in the fall and has been the perfect fellow for the job! He has visited the Seniors once during the year, and gave everyone a dime, to an Easter Treat. As this issue of “The Owl” goes to press on May 21, Charlie has plans for entertaining the Seniors but at the moment, they are a “dee-dyed” secret.
