Devotional Thoughts John 1:14 This verse is one of the most comforting and inspiring in all Scripture, effective way. The comfort and inspiration come when we realize that Jesus came as a little bahe. His coming in this way should make us under stand the inperishable value of human personality. Human Per sonality can express God. That is what this verse says. When we comprehend this in its fullness, it should make us glad that we live. Furthermore it brings comfort because inspite of our failures and Tveaknesses w’e know that because of this truth we can rise out of such and live a better life. Jesus was saying, when He took upon Himself the form of a man, watch me and see what human person ality might become. Never let your failures conquer you. Know that human nature can be fine and great when in intimate and harmonious union with God. That is what Jesus did with human nature. This verse is issuing us a challenge to lay hold of God and live victorious and triumph ant lives. Religion’s chief function is not to protect us from something but to give us power to become God’s children. When we surrender to spreading cheap gossip, fail to ac cept our responsibilities or de grade human personality in other ways, we should remember vic tory can be ours if we live with God. Jesus proved it by being a man but never surrendering to sin. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Rev. T. M. Grant, Pastor First Methodist Church Rocky Mount, N. C.
