Page Four The Caromount News OCTOBER, 1951 f f |Peop/e You Knowj Bertis J. Morgan came to Caro mount in May, 1942 and has been employed here since that date. He is at present a Roller Operator in the Final Examining Depart ment. Bertis is a native of Nash Coun ty, where he was born November 16, 1907, the son of Mrs. Zula Morgan and Jonah Bertis Morgan. He attended Nash County Schools and farmed most of the time be fore he came to work at Caro mount. On November 11, 1933 he was married to the former Miss Lessie Mae Taylor of Nash County. They have one daughter, Linda Faye, who is five years of age. The Morgans own their home at Sandy Cross in Nash County. During his hours away from work Mr. Morgan helps his father-in- law run his farm. His wife, Mrs. Lessie Morgan is employed in the Caromount Warp ing Department. They attend the Taylor’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness church near their home. 9 Years No Absentee Mrs. Pearl Green (Final Exam ining) completed her ninth year at Caromount with no absences from work, on October 15, 1951 establishing quite a record for her self. Mrs. Green said that she was very proud of her record, and was happy that her health was good enough to enable her to keep this record. Life begins when a person first realizes how soon it ends. Weaveshed News After Squirrels Dave Ezzell is going after the squirrels this fall. He recently purchased a rifle from Sears-Roe- buck Co., and his friends say he has been popping cans off fences and posts in preparation for the coming season. Dave says he can get a squirrel right between the eyes. * Working At Home Squire Sidney Collier has been doing a great deal of work a- round his new home lately. He was last seen discing the ground a- round the house. Looks like the boy is going to have a lawn next summer. Hospitalized Mrs. R. W. Tippett was recent ly hospitalized due to two broken ribs. We hope she will recover soon. Were Their Faces Red Wouldn’t you know it! On Sun day, October the seventh, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. (Flick & Edith) Ezzell, mgtored to Norfolk with the idea of watching the World Series game on television and. Guess What? Game was postponed because of rain. Were their faces red? Jury Duty J. W. Kennedy and Luther Ves- ter were called for Jury Duty in October at Nashville. W. T. Lay- ton served for the Septamber term. Good Catch Hubert Sutton and Gus Riley had a good catch down at Cashey fishing the other day. They caught 26 nice speckled perch and one chub. Bowling Teams The Weaveshed boys on the first shift have organized two bowling teams to bowl each other every Monday night. So far they have had some keen competition and some nice times. Those bowl ing are: Herman Ezzell, Ray Bass, Clyde Evans, Ralph Morris, Wil bur Williams, H. J. Ezzell, Hubert Sutton, Tommie Layton, Russell, Langley, Flick Ezzell, Leroy Camp bell and Jim Speight. Good Reception Coy Frye said he has been get ting good reception on his tele vision recently, especially the World Series and football games. New Television Set Nolie Robinson has a new tele vision set and says his reception is very good. He enjoys sports of all kinds, especially the hall games, fights and wrestling matches. In AVilinington Mr. and Mrs. Sam Brittain spent a weekend in Wilmington visiting Sam’s father. They had a very nice time. Our Service Men Buck Draughn, the 22 year old son of Mrs. Mattie Draughn (AVeaving) is shown administering first aid to a Chinese Red I>risoner in Korea. He is a Medic. Warping Reports Sanford Mrs. Agnes Proctor visited her husband in Sanford, N. C. recent ly* Marriage Roger Joyner has announced the marriage of his father, Lonnie Jefferson Joyner to Mrs. Pearl Parker. Out Sick Mrs. Dorothy Cockrell Doyle has been out sick for some time with appendicitis. We hope that she will improve rapidly. Birthdays Mrs. Ruby Bunn and Mrs. Agnes Proctor were talking about celebrating birthdays recently. This is real news when women admit they have birthdays. Attending Meeting Luther Cuddington and his mother attended the annual meet ing at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Johnston County, Sun day, October 7, 1951. AA'^eekend Guest Mrs. Mandy Coats had as her guest for a weekend her husband’s cousin, who she had not seen in twenty-two years. Ward Given Job By The Governor Out Sick John Amos Dail spent several days in Duke Hospital for a minor operation. He has returned to work and he is well we are glad to report. Fair AA^eek Leslie Jones and Reynolds Ken nedy operated concessions at the Rocky Mount Fair. They had a very nice week. New Cars Gus Riley is sporting a new green 1951 Chevrolet. It’s real pretty too. Clyde Evans has a new 1951 black Pontiac. In a press release from the Gov ernor’s Office September 25, 1951 announcing some appointments ef fective that day, was also an ap pointment by Governor Scott of Quillen Ward of Rocky Mount, to the Advisory Committee of the North Carolina Recreation Com mission representing industrial management for a period of two years, from September 25, 1951 to July 3, 1953. In addition to the appointment from Governor Scott, Ward re ceived a letter from Russell M- Grumman, chairman of the Ad visory Committee, offering his congratulations, and giving no tice of the next meeting to be held Monday, November 5, 1951 at the Robert E. Lee Hotel, Win ston-Salem, and asking for sug' gestions and recommendations for future developments in Ward’s special field of interest. Company Buys Ten YMCA Memberships During the recent Y. M. C. A* membership drive in Rocky Mount Sidney Blumenthal and Co. Inc.;, realizing the importance of the Y. M. C. A . to our community and our youth, again subscribed to ten Y. M. C. A. memberships for ten deserving local boys. J. A. Harper, Y. M. C. A. Gen eral Secretary, extended his thanks to the Company for the check for $60.00 to pay for the memberships in a recent letter; and also stated that the memberships would b® assigned at a later date to Rocky Mount boys.
