Send News for the October Is sue to Personnel Office Before October 15. Devotional Thoughts In the book of Acts, Chapter 5, we find the second great wave of the rivival in Jerusakm. Peo ple had come from afar off to hear the gospel. Many of them had been saved and remained in Jerusalem. These people were in need for food and the physical things of life. Some of the peo ple had property and they sold it, and brought the money to the apostles. Here in Acts we find two people who had been going to the revival who had property and had not sold anything to give toward the work of the apostles. They went home one night from the service and Ana nias asked his wife, Sapphira, if she noticed how the people look ed at them when Barnabus sold what he had and gave his life for the ministry. Their looks seemed to say that we have not done anything. This couple be gan reasoning as to what they could do when the devil came along and told them to sell a piece of property and keep back part of the profit for themselves. He further explained that the peo ple will think you did the best you could and you will be saved from your embarrassment. They accepted the devil’s plan and sold the land. When Ananias got the money he went straight to Peter and laid the gift at his feet, but Peter knew what was in his heart and said to him, “Ananias, why has Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost and to keep back part of the price of the land?” WTien Peter finished speaking Ananias fell down and gave up the ghost. About three hours later Ana nias’ wife, not knowing what had happened, went through the same proceedure that her husband had been through. Peter said to her, Births Danny Richard Nelms Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Nelms an nounce the birth of a son, Dan ny Richard, born August 23, at Park View Hospital. Mr. Nelms is employed in the Weaveshed. Roger Luther Farmer Mr. and Mrs. Roger Farmer announce the birth of a son, Rog er Luther, born September 10, at Rocky Mount Sanitarium Roger is employed in the Finish ing Department. Bonnie Thelma Ingram Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Ingram an nounce the birth of a daughter, Bonnie Thelma, born September 17, at Memorial Hospital. J. C. is employed in the Rug depart ment. Jim Ervin Jenkins, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jenkins an nounce the birth of a son, Jim Ervin, Jr., born September 10, at Park View Hospital. Jim is employed in the Final Inspection department. Little Georgia Poland, shown above, is the granddaughter of Tom and Ruby Bledsoe of the Caromount Weaveshed. “How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord?” Then fell she straight way at his feet and yielded up the ghost. Why did God kill these two people? He killed them to teach men from then on not to trifle with God. What was their sin? They were trying to put something over on God, and pretending to be something that they were not all the time. If God struck everyone dead who was guilty of this sin there would not be enough left to bury the dead. There are a lot of people guilty of this sin. It is the sin of lying to the Holy Ghost. They are living with one foot in the church and the other foot in the work of the devil. They put on sheep’s clothing on Sunday and attend church, and then go out with wolves during the week. They are pretending to be giving God the best and yet they are with holding their best. Are you guilty of this sin? Ask god to for give you. Claude T.
