My Kind Of Teacher Recently, a teacher, desiring to find out whether she is meeting the needs of her pupils, and to get a kind of measure of herself, asked those who would to write on the sub, ject, '‘What I Expect of My Teachers”. Here follow two of the brief compositions. As editor-in-chief of the Lin coln Echo I want to express my gratitude to our parents and pa trons; our principal and teachers; and our students and the staff who have helped so much in keeping our school paper alive. I want to thank especially those students who paid the advance fees tnis year. You have made our task less difficult. This is your paper andsyou have supported it. However, in order that I may help in this request, I shall at least state most of the important things I expect of them. First of all. I want my teach ers to try to understand what I am able to do and to make as signments according to my abil ity; and when I fail to accom plish all of it to be patient with rrjp Secondly, when they make special assignments that require reference work I wish that they would guide me in the matter of suggesting where this informa tion may be found. Too, I wish that they would remember that the library service is not often available to us. Thirdly, I would like my teach ers to be very pleasant in their work, so that I may be at m.y best and give back to them the i best that I have. Pleasantness is catching, and always has its ef fect on the class as a whole. Finally, I would like my teach ers to be well prepared so as to make the lessons interesting, and so that they may be conducted in a variety of ways. Variety is the spice of life, and helps to keep things from becoming dull. A teacher capable of doing all these things would surely be able to give me the proper grade accord ing to the t5'pe of work that I do. I ask no more than this. WHAT I EXPECT OF MY TEACHERS What I expect of my teachers can be expressed very simply. The most important is that of hav ing patience with the student who hasn’t the ability to learn as fast as others and give him a chance (See TEACHERS, page 4)
