OCTOBER, 1951 THE LINCOLN ECHO The Sports Sparks By John Clark Lincoln High 15—Second Ward 6 The Lincoln High Tigers open ed the season with an impressive win over the Second Ward Tigers of Charlotte by a score of 15-6. Lincoln scored when a punt was blocked by Captain Ralph Bynum and Melvin Farrington. In the sec ond quarter, Second Ward scored on a blocked kick which was re covered in the end zone for a touchdown. Their extra point at tempt was no good. With 30 sec onds remaining in the second quarter, Matthew Davis passed to Thomas Bynum who raced 40 yards for the touchdown. Edward Geer passed to Ross Farrington for the extra point. In the third quarter, Charles Worth scamper ed 5 yards around right end for the final score. Davis passed to Worth for the extra point which was no good. 25 — LINCOLN 0 Lincoln High went to de feat in the second game agcU^t jits arch rival, HiUside High of Durham, 25-0. Hillside scored three touchdowns in the first half and one in the last half. LINCOLN 40—SILER CITY 0 While recovering from the shel- docking of Hillside, the Tigers romped the Chatham County Training School, 40-0. Lincoln’s first score came on the fifth play when Charles Worth went over center for 4 yards for a touch down. Edward Geer passed to Thomas Bynum for the extra point. On the second play after the Tigers received the ball again, Edward Geer passed to Thomas Bynum on a sleeper play, who raced 35 yards for the second touchdown. Then Edward Geer passed to Thomas Bynum for the extra point. For the third touch down, Geer passed to Charles Worth who ran 20 yards for the I touchdown.
