Under the superb guidance of Coach R. O. Kornegay the “Tigers” compiled a record of twenty-three wins against two setbacks. The Tigers first setback came when they met the well-rounded Lucy Ad dison High School of Roanoke, Va., and came out on the short end by a score of 82-72. This ended a nineteen game winning streak without a loss. A few days following the defeat at the hands of Addison High, Lincoln re-entered the winning column by winning in an overtime 53-51 over Person County Training School of Roxboro, N. C., in the first round of the District Tour nament. The Tigers swept the tourney by defeating Johnson County Training School o f ■Smithfield, N. C. and Merrick- Moore of Durham, N. C. by scores 41-28 and 51-22 respect- NEWS FROM 10-A By Louise Carver The lOA girls and boys are now learning a one-act play, entitled “Facing the Future” by Walter Hackett to be presented in assembly in the near future. The play represents a social problem that usually follows a ’ war boom, that of keeping large boys and girls in school after they have become accustomed to earning good salaries or wages. The time is a few months after the close of World War H. The cast is as follows: Larry Lawson, who is almost eighteen, and who has been holding a job with good wages; John Lawson an American father about forty- five years of age; Mrs. Jennie Lawson, the typical mother; Ted Lawson, a studious type about twenty-one; and Evelyn Law- son, a young college girl about twenty. Larry, a high school senior, j learns by experience that educa- i tion is a far better investment than the temporary gain of war time income. He decides to com plete his last year in high school, and then to go into premedical training. The class is proud of its Im- ! provement in attendance and in the number that is now mak ing the honor roll. This period six of the twenty in class made the honor roll with averages of B. ively. By winning the District Tournament qualified Lincoln High for the State Tourney, which was held in Fayetteville, N. C. The Tigers won the first game by forfeit over Kings Mountain, N. C., which placed them in the semi-final. The Tig ers met Artesea High in the semi-finals and won 47-42, but in the finals they were over come by Nash County Training School of Nashville, N. C. by a score of 45-41. Therefore Lin coln High became State Run ners-up. The Tigers will lose three players from the squad this year. They are: Captain Thomas By num, Ward Burnett, and Ed win Caldwell, At the last home game Coach Kornegay presentt- ed Captain Bynum, Burnett, and ' Caldwell and Girls Captain Mu riel Atwater trophies for their invaluable service to the bas ketball squads. The Tigers will also lose this year, their head trainer, George Sanford. San ford has been a trainer for the past three (3) years.
