Lincoln Gefs Bus
Lincoln High School’s faculty
and student body conducted a suc
cessful drive to raise money for
the purpose of purchasing a bus
for student activities. The drive
was in the form of a teacher pop
ularity contest.
Mrs. M. D. Turner, homeroom
adviser of the 12th grade, was
honored as the most popular
teacher when she reported the
highest amount, $132.00.
Other reports, turned in by
homeroom teachers, were as fol
lows: Mrs. Bell, $117.10; Mrs.
Kornegay, $110.25; Mrs. Smith
and Mr. McDougle, $108.15; Mrs.
Robinson, $107.50; Mrs. Fulford,
$102.05; Mrs. Hicks, $101.00; Mrs.
Barnes, $100.05; Mrs. Frazier,
$91.25 and Mr. Lowery, $47.51.

Miss Homecoming
Miss Margaret Nevilles of the
12th Grade was elected Miss

body. Her attendants were De-
lores Walker, Helen Walker,
Loretta Hackney, and Carolyn
Hogan.
The athletic and homecoming
committees set the date for
Homecoming as October 30, 1953.
In the Homecoming game the
Lincoln High School Tigers met
the Jordan-Sellars High School
team of Burlington.
The Homecoming Parade fea
tured floats from the various
business establishments in Chapel
Hill, and the school. The Jordan-
Sellars and Lincoln High School
bands marched in the parade.
The parade began from the
school at 4:30 p. m. and proceeded
via Rosemary and Franklin
Streets and on to the Carrboro
Lions Park.
Margaret Nevilles of the Senior
Class was elected Miss Homecom
ing by popular vote. She reigned
as queen throughout the day. The
highlights of the game were the
crowning of Miss Homecoming by
Delores Walker, and the maneu
vers by the Burlington and Lin
coln High Bands.
The climax of the Homecoming
Day was the Annual Homecoming
Dance which was held at the
Community Center.

Of America News
The N.H.A. club - has made
many plans for the year.
The N.H.A. District Convention
was held this year at Hillsboro,
North Carolina. Several repre
sentatives from our school attend
ed this meeting. Interesting re
ports were given by the repre
sentatives to the group.
The N.H.A. welcomes the
freshman girls into the organiza
tion.

Class Visits Fair
On October 20, the 8-A class
along with the other elementary
classes attended the State Fair.
We were fortunate to have the
opportunity to hear our Governor,
William B. Umstead, deliver the
dedicatory address, opening the
beautiful new Arena, which is
sometimes referred to as the
“Cow Palace.”
Several former governors ap
peared on program, including
former Governors Scott and Cher
ry and Sen. Clyde R. Hoey.

nual Debutante’s Ball which will
be sponsored by the Alpha Theta
Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority in Raleigh during
the Thanksgiving weekend.
