Cjops arc grovting line; The planted germs are rotten, But the results are mine. Growing time is flying, Harvest lime is nigh. Soon the time will come When we will have to die We are like the growing crops, Near, the harvest time; 0 mav we all be gathered, In a brighter, better clime. If we are divinely planted. In soil of grace and love, Our rest will be joytul, In the bright realms above. 0, may all sins be pardoned And every conscience clear So we can spend eternity W'itliout a sigh or tear. Oh God, be tntrcifui! And grant us our request. 0 give us a home in heaven. With thy sainted guest. Then vve will praise thee ever. Ifjou a'-e a Cl ri^tiau, ifyoursocuty has any right to thi name it beats, son etbing must be done.—Excl ange. J am DOW at home. My wife is very sick. Last Tues day night some one entered my house and relieved me of ail the money I had saved up to pay expenses through Mrs StClare’s approaching illness Last Sunday was spent at Oak Grove, Miller county, Ga. with W. A. McDonald, who as so much interested in the great reforms going on now in V Georgia. ‘And indeed the succcssoFtbe F. VV. L, m Ga is^'largtly due to Eld. McDonald’s untiring energy. I have just read the last issue of the dear old Baptist and note Bro Geo. H. Harper’s letter. It seemed that my article touched a tender place in Bro. Harper’s make up His letter speaks for him. When Jesus inspired ignorant fishermen to preach, they used the mostbeautifulchaste language, without a gram matical error or a single mistake. Why, because God called them and God qualified them. They made no blun ders, because God, the Holy Ghost spake through them. Now we do not want to eff- nd any one. God forbid. But let us face a few facts. Does God in this age call and qualify men to preach? ‘’Ob yes,” says almost every one. Yes, I know God calls men to preach; ves, I know it. I also know that he does not qualify them. For if the same God who quahhed Peter James and John: ignorant fishermen, qualified Bro. Harper and scores of others, they would use the same beautiful Ian guage. They would make no blunders or mistakes. 1 be lieve that God did call all these good men to preach; for their works prove it, but to claim that God qualified them is to make God respon sible for ail their errors in speech. Y’ou may search the Bible and you will find that all the prophets and apostles whom God qualified used very choicest language. Why? Because God was speaking through them. But for Bro Harper to claim that God speaks through him forces me and all other thinking people to one or two conclusions; namely, either God has for gotten bis language or Bro. Harper has claimed too much. Now, as God never forgets. I am forced to believe the Bro. claims too much. Now Bro. and all others like you, let me say if you will refer to my article you will find that I did not say or intimate that wc should take up any and all and educate them for the miiiisLiy. Cut t\'c have lots of young men who are called of God. It is our duty to help ibetn qialify so that they can express tberaselves intelligently. Y’ou know, my dear Bro. Harper, that most all of our preachers in Fia. feel ashamed to preach even in the little towns, where they trade. The apostles went to the cities. Our piea cbers stay in tbe country; what a difference. One of the best of our preachers said to me recently: “I am getting ashamed to preach, for the children laugh at my mistakes.” I do not mean to push tbe uneducated man out. God forbid. But I donot, and preachers like the Gospel preachers were use good plain, simple language. God bless the dear brethren, who laid the foundation of ihe F. W. B. church in the South. They did it well and we want to continue to build upon it. Now dear Bro. Harper, I ant to call yoflr attention to the folloxyin^ facts: Sev enty' ri'v the Primitive ' Baptist church was I be stronger and the Missionary Baptist the weaker of tbe two churches. There were 30 Primitives to one Missionary. New look, the Missionaiies now number three millions, the Primitives less than forty thousand. What was the cause of the great decrease? Can vou tell? It was because the Missionaries, when God calls a man to preach, assisted him to tiualify. The Primi tives, boasting and relying upon their ignorance opposed education, missions and nearly every thing else. Now this will end my article on this subject. There are none so blind as those who will not see. It is needless to try and shov a mau the right when he shuts his eyes and prefers darkness. They dont want to know anything and are offended if others trj to cultivate tbe talents God has given them. I wish no lebate on the subj ’ct and will have none. This article is written in love. One more question: Who is it todaj that is pushing this (piestion bf education? Why, glorj to God, it is such men uf Eild. W. A. McDonald, Sani Eley, G. T. Wiley, J. A. Blan ton, W. T, E Butler and oth ers. Are these men educated No, but loving the Free Will Baptist, they see tbe need ofit StCl.aire. Seed does not always grow the year it is planted. Some seeds in the writer’s garden are nowsproutiug vvhichhavi been planted over two years. Tbe great question is this: Have you prayerfully, intelli gently, obediently sown tht seed? Have you so sown that yo i have reas m to ex pect a harvest? UNION MEETING. Dear Editor:—Please allow me space in the Baptist to mention the meeting at Finey Grove, which began Sept. 9, as was above mentioned. Tba meeting has been a wonderful success. There have been 12 accessions to tbe church and and one gave in at the water. I want to say that Elder K. T. Corbett is a power in revival WL!'. He is the right ' .;ght place. Pett is a mall that 1 beleivc has the work at heart. He has done a great work attbis place and some I think that will be lasting. He made many friends in the community of Piney Grove church. He is very kind and jovial and has a good word for everybody be meets. His wife is also en gaged in the work with him. May God ever bless him and his dear companion and crown their labors with suc cess; and enable them tobring up Leolian in the way she should go. We desire the prayers of all God’s people that these meetings may be a success. Yours in Hope, Lui.a Crawford. Life is not measured by a day, but by a broad sweep cf bo'.h time i nd e ernity.
