Libba Evans had the winning bid and transported the many boxes bear ing her one-of-a-kind auction treasure trove back to Win ston-Salem. 1992 Penland Auction Coordinators Rebecca Caldwell, Connie Sedberry, and Tim Veness wish to thank as well all of the many wonderful volunteers — too numerous to name, unfortunately — who enthusiastically gave of their time and talents to make this year's benefit a resounding success. All of the auction proceeds, from the sale of the donors’ works plus the receipts from patron and other ticket sales and the many additional contributions, will be put toward planned improvements to the studios and other facilities after expenses are determined. - REBECCA CALDWELL Mary Ann and Sam Scherr chat with Rebecca Caldwell. THERE WILL BE REFRESHMENTS SERVED. IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO MAKE A DAY OF IT AND COME FOR SUNDAY BRUNCH, BUT ONLY IF YOU CALL 765-7942 IN ADVANCE TO MAKE RESERVATIONS. This year, for the first time, the Gallery will REMAIN OPEN TO DECEMBER 20 IN ORDER TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR CHRISTMAS SHOPPINGl ■ ALL IN THE FAMILY The newest member of the penland staff is Larry Cate, whose wife Helen is the school’s accountant. Larry is now the Assistant Store Manager assisting kat Conley who is the Purchasing agent in addition TO HER responsibilities FOR THE SUPPLY STORE. Before coming to Penland, Larry was an electronic TECHNICIAN AT RADIO SHACK. AN AVID TENNIS AND SOFTBALL PLAYER, HE LIKES TO FISH AND HUNT. HE IS ALSO VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO BEING A NEW DAD WHEN THEIR BABY IS BORN NEXT MONTH. The subject of family leave is much in the news DURING THIS ELECTION CAMPAIGN, BUT WHILE OTHERS ARE TALKING ABOUT IT, PENLAND IS DOING SOMETHING. Helen plans to stay at home after her baby is born AT LEAST UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR. BUT SHE WILL STILL BE WORKING APPROXIMATELY HALF TIME. TO DO THIS SHE’LL BE TAKING HER COMPUTER HOME WITH HER AND Penland will install a special phone line and a MODEM SO THAT SHE CAN CONTINUE MOST OF HER WORK FROM HOME IN BETWEEN DIAPER CHANGES AND FEEDINGS. Emily Crain will be initiating the checks, making OUT THE DEPOSITS AND HANDLING THE GENERAL FILING, ALL TASKS WHICH NEED TO BE DONE IN THE OFFICE. T7T
