A number of Penland trustees have* responded to our efforts at improving school housing by arranging dona tions of furnishings through their net work of personal contacts. The most recent contribution came from Jeff Yoimg, CEO of Lexington Furniture, who went to high school with trustee Libba Evans. The donation included dining room chairs, stuffed chairs, dressep, sofas, end tables, privacy screens, and even a wicker couch. It was many, many pieces of quality furniture which have had a visible impact on our housing. In her thank-you letter to Jeff Young, Interim Director Donna Jean Dreyer told the story of our furniture moving party: “We had crews lined up ready to work when the call came that the truck was on the way up the hill. When it arrived, however, it could not get up the twisting driveway to the building where we planned to store the furniture while we moved it piece by piece to the final locations. Time for a quick cheinge of plans; we began to unload onto the driveway outside our kitchen, hoping the food delivery truck would be late. It wasn’t! So we stepped up the pace and got everything out and then brought the food truck in. “We thanked your wonderful driver, James Jacobs, and sent the truck on its way when suddenly the sky turned black. So we marshaled every avail able person to come and shift the furniture inside, just getting the last piece in when the heavens opened. “From start to finish our interaction with Lexington Furniture has been wonderful. Alan Fritz and Jan Hersey have both been great. We do thank you for this wonderful gift which will brighten many rooms and many of the houses we use for instructors. Two chairs wound up in the director’s office and I sat in one yesterday—comfortable and good looking. Thank you!” ANNUAL APPEAL Our annual appeal this year was a tremendous success. Friends gave gener ously to help us begin renovations to our student housing. The students who are here this summer have helped us to discover many other things that still need to be fixed, as well as lamps, tables, chairs, and other furnishings that still need to be purchased. I hope you will take this opportunity and consid er making a gift to help us continue to improve our facilities. Many thanks in advance for your support. —Erika Sanger, Director ojDevelopment PENLAND FRIENDS Penland School of Crafts • Post Office Box 37 • Penland, NC 2876^-0037 Name. Address. City. .State. .
